WAC Baseball Opening Weekends 2013

Alright....baseball is RIGHT around the corner! Who in the WAC are hosting? I'm sure some of the Texas schools are hosting.
What are your weekends shaping up like?

Here at CSUB we have Nebraska, Fullerton and USC in a mini-tournament. Part of this also will be played down south. Hardt Field has been upgraded with good seats. The weather is expected to be perfect (high 60s-low 70s...few clouds) I cant wait. First pitch Friday at 3:00!

Edit:
Of course Frank Cruz wont be with USC this weekend when they visit...

I'll be there on Friday buddy.  Gonna cut out early and stop by on my way back to the valley from SoCal.  Would love to see the Fullerton game but I'm not going to make it for that one.

Who's pitching on friday?

Not sure but I'd guess....Montoya maybe given the start as the ranking upperclassman. Just a sentimental guess.

Re: WAC Baseball Opening Weekends

Missouri State, Tulane and Sam Houston coming to San Marcos.

We have 2 pitchers down for the season with injuries, one transfer (OF) quit. One pitcher with a sore arm and who we thought would take over 3rd out with a possible torn hammy.

Not the best way to open the season.

On another note, they added a batter's eye to center field and the "old" football scoreboard (nice Daktronics with 3 years useage) is now at the baseball field.

Next weekend is our annual 3 gamer with Houston. I think that will be a better tell on how things will shape up.

According to the Notebook, it looks like McKenzie, Brattvet and Montoya in that order. I THINK Montoya is ready (recovering from TJ surgery) but if not it lists Buchanan.

According to the notebook, projected position starters will include three Freshmen.

SAN JOSE STATE 62, FRESNO STATE 52
Let's get the "three-peat" in 2014!

Missed the top half of the first.  Left at the 7th inning stretch.  Was camped out on the berm on the 3rd base side.  Walked through the grand stand to see if I could see you there (also wanted to introduce myself to jeff and jeff) but I didn't linger because I didn't want to get in the way of people watching the game.

Wow, RB, that place has come a long way from the two bunkers, a few portapotties, and a pair of bleachers that was there the day we watched the Poly game a couple years ago.  Place looks great.  Very impressed with the atmosphere.  How bout those Husker fans, huh?  Quite a few red shirts there.  What a fan base, they show up in Bako for college baseball.  Good amount of Runners fans there too.  Met a couple of the womens basketball players on my way out to the car that had come to the game.  All in all, a very good way to end an otherwise crappy week for me.

After Mckenzie (don't think I got the spelling right) settled down he looked good.  Once he worked his way out of that bases loaded jamb in the 3rd I felt pretty good.  Runner's offense looked good, and their defense looked solid as it always does with Kernan coaching.

Way to go SJSU (1-0), nice comeback win over Pacific for our new Coach. And the Spartans shut out Stanford in an exhibition game earlier this week. That one may not count in the standings, but it's always nice to beat our Bay Area rival. cool

Well, we tried. Rallied in the 8th, had bases loaded down one, and lost 6-5. Oh, well. Try again tomorrow

Re: WAC Baseball Opening Weekends

Our starter went 6 innings, gave up 2 runs and had 11K but we lost in 11 innings 3-2.

We have got to find some offensive power or this could be a long season.
Senior lead-off (Mickan) gave us a chance, twice, to go ahead or add more runs to the tally but no one behind him took advantage.

We did have one inning where our lead-off hitter (Sah) got on via an E3 then tried to steal. The pick-off throw to 1st was way off line but...it hit the umpire behind 1st....allowing the 1B to retrieve it easily and cut him down in a run down. banghead

It's 1 game of many. Let's see how it goes from here.

Big wins for the Hornets and Runners over UT and SC today.  The WAC has gotta get these RPI wins early.

Yah, identical 9-4 score over USC. Runners look good so far. Another attendance record in great weather today. The new seating is wonderful. So far this is looking lime a good year for us. Heck, biggest problem was...the line at the BBQ tent! biggrin

Jeff Hurd in attendance today. He led the seventh inning stretch sing-along.
