Re: Joe Pasternack and Jorge Gutierrez situation
Guitierrez has always been a hothead.
I have no idea how a Tech wasn't called on either Guiti or the Pasternack coach who wasn't innocent either.
Pac 12 basketball officiating is the most inconsistent I've ever seen. Washington got away with a lot of street stuff against UCLA on Thursday and meanwhile in Berkeley Arizona C/PF Angelo Chol is getting whistled down low without making any contact whatsoever.
As for Arizona, this is the third time this season statements had to be issued several days after the games for extra-curricular stuff. They've fostered a thug image starting in the Oregon State game when two of Arizona's guards and a PF came off the bench to get involved in a shoving incident. Most blamed the recent tension between OSU and Arizona - it's the third straight year a multiple Tech incident has happened.
Then against Utah Solomon Hill was thrown out for intentionally elbowing a Forward in the head. Against WSU Josiah Turner was T-ed and benched for shoving the big Australian to the ground. I figured there would be more but I didn't think the next incident would involve coach Pasternack.
A lot of Sean Miller's players are hard dudes from tough neighborhoods. In fact, Forward Kevin Parrom had been playing with bullet shrapnel in his butt cheek from gun shot wounds picked up over the summer.

RE: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Believe me when I say what I'm about to say has absolutely nothing to do with my ASU allegiance and rivalry towards UofA...
Parrom is a thug.
He could be suiting up for any other Pac-12 school and I'd say the same thing.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay.

Ducks absolutely robbed in Boulder. What a joke. 4 of the worst calls you will see all year decided that game

Re: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Wish a replay was available, but from what I'm hearing the officials whistled Oregon's Bigs for breathing on the Colorado ball handlers. Zona fans can relate, our freshman C/PF gets needlessly whistled seemingly every time plays D on the post. Blow-happy refs force him to play soft D. Especially on the road when all the calls are going the home crowd's way. edit: Found a detailed account of the last 5 or 10 seconds: From an Arizona fan, Olsondogg on another board: Nothing too major until the waning minutes. Crowd was loud as CU tried to battle back...there was some suspect foul calls, but at the very end Oregon took the lead with like 5 seconds on a layup in the paint, to tie the game. The tatted up white PG on Colorado raced up the court and aggressively went into the lane and forced contact on E.J. Singler, missed the layup and the whistle came with something like 0.1 seconds on the shot clock...putting him at the line.
They adjusted the time I believe but the guy hit the first and intentionally missed the second. The "foul" was basically nonexistent and shouldn't have been called. It reminded me of several PAC games throughout the years where things that were not fouls earlier in the game suddenly become must calls later in the game.
Makes no sense to me.
Yep, sounds like more petty Pac 12 officiating. ducktilldeath wrote: Ducks absolutely robbed in Boulder. What a joke. 4 of the worst calls you will see all year decided that game

Re: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Found a highlight, watch the "foul" call right after the 1:20 mark. Worse, the refs even video reviewed the call and allowed it to stand, effectively giving CU the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...player_embedded

Re: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Interesting, the game I watched had the Refs calling CU for all sorts of ticky tack crap, Woods mauling our guy in front of the Ref...no call, Duck arm tackling a Buff in front of the Ref....no call. To hear complaints that the Ducks got jobbed, wow, guess that's subjective perspective.
Basically you can't let the game come down to one play where a ref can determine the game, else you put yourself in that position.
Anyway, I was there and Tomlinson was fouled, can't believe we allowed the layup prior to that. Great game, made a great Saturday night.
Hopefully we can take a couple on the road, Tempe/SLC, and this is a young Buffs team.

jaheathjah, welcome to the board. I hope you stick around as we can use more Buff fans, and frankly more Pac-12 fans in general.

RE: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Glad to be here, the only other Pac 12 board I know of is so poorly designed I can't even ask to have my password reset or emailed to me as I forgot it so I'm locked out:-). I thought it was a mobile thing, but not so sure anymore. Lots of Buffs on that site however and Ducks n Utes. Some different footage of the BBall game last weekend for some well rounded perspective.... www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.db...5&DB_OEM_ID=600 www.thedenverchannel.com/sport...946/detail.html m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_...bHspFXy1s&gl=US

Great game in Boulder on Saturday night. I have to agree with jaheathjah. Bad officiating all around. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

Hopefully I'll be getting into tonight's Arizona Colorado game. "Hopefully" meaning I'll be bootlegging off of somebody else's electronic tickets (that they gave me) which sometimes require ID.

Re: Thursday's results
After last night's games three distinct tiers seem to be emerging:
Top: Teams receiving serious at-large Tourney consideration: Colorado, Washington, Cal, Arizona, Oregon.
Mid: Teams with enough athleticism and talent to make a run in the conference tourney: UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State, Washington. Stanford has really faded.
Bottom: Not just in conference, some of the bottom Power conference teams nationally: Arizona State, Utah, SC. These might be the worst bottom trio of teams Pac 10/12 basketball has ever suffered.

This is the weakest Pac-10/12 in at least a decade.

RE: 2011-12 Pac-12 Basketball
Yesterday's game vs. Utah was the worst half of basketball I've ever seen Arizona play. Awful is too nice to describe it. Thankfully Nick Johnson emerged from his slump and put UA over the top in the second half against an absolutely awful Utah team.
On one hand, it's a mark of a good team to play horribly and still win, but on the other hand this was at home and against a 5 win Utah team who's an embarrassment to the Pac 12 right now.
