Future Longhorn OOC Games

I was looking at what our future OOC schedule looks like and was fairly pleased

2015 - Notre Dame, California Golden Bears

2016 - Notre Dame, California Golden Bears

2017 - Maryland, USC Trojans

2018 - Maryland, USC Trojans

2019 - Notre Dame

2020 - Notre Dame

2021 - Arkansas

2022 - Ohio St

2023 - Ohio St

Not that bad at all
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

Re: Future Longhorn OOC Games

I thought I read that ND was pulling out of the 2019 and 2020 engagements.

I suppose Aggy will be ready to go by then anyway.

I read that too.  Not sure we would replace them with aggie though

I wish we had Ohio State sooner than that. But not bad at all for a future lineup!

I think our OOC schedule should feature at least one marquee game each year

It looks to me we will have done this

Even better if these are all home-and-away... as opposed to JerryWorld!  (I have no idea if that is the case, just hoping it is).

Yes, these are all home-and-home (Arkansas is the return game in FayetteNam for the front half of the series played in Austin several years ago, they've bumped it out several times for reasons of their own).

The only game we're playing at JerryWorld is UCLA in 2014, and that's because UCLA gave up a home game to do it.  Texas already plays one neutral site game every single year, the administration is unlikely ever to give up another home date in favor of a neutral site game.

I've also heard the rumor that ND might be pulling out of the second series, if true I hope we can replace them with another marquee option.

Thanks for the clarification.   I did see the UCLA game coming up, which is the main reason I had made the comment since I really hadn't looked to see if any others were scheduled up there.    Good to hear there is some commitment to scheduling home games and that there are plenty of opponents willing to schedule that way, rather than get distracted by Jerry-money.

I kind of want to go to Berkeley in a couple of years, that sounds like a fun trip.  I wonder how many of the Cal fans travel, would be kind of a hippie-mash-up going on with those fan bases coming together.

Re: Future Longhorn OOC Games

I don't view Texas football fans as being very hippie-like.  Austin and a decent portion of the student body, sure, but those people don't generally go to football games.  I suppose the Berkeley Bear fans will see a few hippies pan-handling around 17th and San Jac, though. biggrin

Can't comment on what the Berkeley fans will be like in California, but I do like the bay area and that's always a fun trip.

I think Texas originally asked to bump the Fayetteville game.  Then Arkansas started the whole JerryWorld thing with A&M.  The A&M series was originally a 10 year deal, bumping the Texas game back to 2019.  Meanwhile, the Aggies joined the SEC, throwing everything up in the air.  Arkansas had to scramble to pick up quality OOC games.  They still wanted to play Texas teams, so they picked up TTech for a home-and-home, and TCU is in there somewhere, I think.  They also had the chance to add a home-and-home with Michigan, thus bumping the Texas game to 2021.

Nope, Texas never asked to bump it.  It was all originally due to Arkansas scheduling the Aggies for a neutral site game, and then the subsequent push-outs for the other reasons you've mentioned.

It doesn't really matter, but wanted to clarify that.

I love the fact that we are going to play Ohio St but wish we would schedule some other Big 10 schools like Michigan. Minnesota or Wisconsin

Re: Future Longhorn OOC Games

Agree, Michican or Wisconsin would be great.

We had Minnesota on the schedule when Tim Brewster went up there, but then TPTB at Texas decided to cancel the series for whatever reasons. It was right around the time he was fired so that could have been a contributing factor (he and Mack were friends), but it was also right around the time the first big realignment shifts in 2010 were happening, and the B10 and Nebraska were negotiating, so that could also have been part of it.

Re: Future Longhorn OOC Games

I don't think it's a question of ability to schedule B1G teams, so much as the desires of our previous administration.  Ohio State is a no-brainer.  Michigan would be too. PSU if/when they get past the stigma of the Sandusky issues.

Beyond that, our previous administration simply had no desire to play the non-marquee teams of the B1G, and "reward them" for what the previous administration considered "bad behavior."   I believe that's part of it, anyway.

I'm not sure what circumstances might be preventing a series with Michigan, most likely just a matter of timing, but if Texas called up Wisconsin or Purdue or Iowa or Minnesota or Illinois, you better believe a series would be scheduled in a heartbeat.  The previous administration had no desire to do so.  We'll see what Patterson feels like doing.

Personally, I'd be very interested in a home-and-home with Wisconsin (or Michigan), but the rest of the B1G doesn't thrill me.

(Aside from Nebraska, but I definitely don't see that happening any time soon for obvious reasons)

So far Patterson is playing it pretty close to the vest.  Im not sure what direction he leans toward,

He better start leaning toward job preservation mode.  We will have a new President coming in and things could shake up a little.

It is apparent that our chancellor wasn't too thrilled that Patterson's first move was to sell beer at football games.  It was the first thing renounced after Powers' departure became imminent.

All of Patterson's wild-ass visions of football games in Mexico and Katmandu may not line up with the next President's direction for the University.  In fact, I hope it doesn't.

Re: Future Longhorn OOC Games

I'm reserving judgment on Patterson until he's made it through a full year including a full football season.

But so far, he appears to be doing exactly what his administration was asking of him-- further professionalize athletics at The University of Texas.  I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything different, that has been the direction for UT athletics for the past 2 decades+, through more than one regime above him.

At what point does the UT fanbase start to push back against this?
