Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Rank them, most confidence game to least confident game...

EASTERN MICHIGAN - nothing to say
WYOMING - toss up with JSU, but this one isn't the opener
JACKSONVILLE STATE - MSU rarely looks sharp in openers
RUTGERS - probably the only home Big Ten game vs. a sub-.500 team
@Purdue - worst Big Ten team, but on road
@Indiana - I like Indiana, but that isn't the toughest venue to play in
NEBRASKA - better than the next 3 teams, but home/night game makes me more confident
@Maryland - going in there for a NOvember night game scares me quite a bit, big trap game
MICHIGAN - at home, should win, but if UM has any pride they'll show some fight, although they said that last year too
@Penn State - road game, tough venue, Senior Day, last game for PSU assuming the bowl ban isn't overturned
OHIO STATE - even at home, even without Braxton, the road to Indy goes through this game
@Oregon - you can't put a wide enough gap between the scariest and 2nd scariest games on this schedule

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Western Illinois (It would be nice to get the FCS off the schedule)
South Florida
Bowling Green
Illinois
@ Purdue
@ Rutgers
Maryland
@ Northwestern
Minnesota
Nebraska
@ Iowa
~@ LSU

Like MSU's I think the difference between 1 and 2 is pretty big. I really really like how the schedule was set up with UW/UNL/Minny/Iowa all playing in the last few weeks of the season. If they can live up to expectations should make for a great finish.

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Kent St: Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State
Illinois: Still waiting for signs of life
Rutgers: Not sure what to make of them but not sure they match up well with Bucks
Indiana: Will they play defense this year? No
Cincinnati: The Fighting Tubervilles are a pretty decent team
@Navy: Breaking in a bunch of offensive players and a new defensive scheme on the road against the triple option makes me nervous
@Maryland: Weird that this is a B1G game
@Minny: Kill's team will be better again, can play enough defense to stymie OSU
@PSU: Seems likely they will be looking to tee off on OSU after last year's score
Va Tech: Second game, with a lot of inexperience on offense against an always solid defense
@MSU: OSU will be fired up and looking for revenge
Michigan: Could be another classic

Hoke is only 1-2 but they've all been must see TV for sixty minutes. Very close games, all. Stark departure from what we had before.

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

App State - 99% (they're much worse than they were 7 years ago
Miami OH - 99% (terrible for a MAC team)
Indiana - 90% (it's been 25 years since they've beaten Michigan, and they still have a terrible defense)
Minnesota - 85% (not because they're bad but they don't match up well against Michigan and it's at home)
@Rutgers - 85% (unless their secondary improves I'm only concerned because its a road game but still expect a quasi-neutral site atmosphere)
Maryland - 80% (they're decent, but this is a home game in November so potentially cold weather the Terps aren't used to)
@Northwestern - 80% (much like Rutgers except they're worse defensively but probably better on offense)
Utah - 75% (they did beat Stanford and had no bad losses last year)
Penn State - 70% (PSU is decent, but Michigan should get loud for this one)
@Notre Dame - 60% (not sold on the ND defense or Golson)
@Ohio State - 45% (they get the advantage for home field but it's really impossible to say because I don't know how good their QB will be)
@Michigan State - 35% (I'm afraid for the OLine and Gardner again)

When your team is winning be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing

The easiest 3 games are the first 3 games on our schedule...

Weber St
@New Mexico
@Colorado
Washington St
Utah
@Arizona
Notre Dame
@Oregon St
@Washington
UCLA
@USC
Stanford

These aren't necessarily in order of worst to best team, but mostly based of home/away and how well ASU matches up with each team.

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

I hate doing this before seeing each team (including my own) play one or two. Any spread team is always a threat to beat Iowa; even more so this year with an unproven back seven.

Ball State
@ Purdue
Northern Iowa - First game of the season gives me the willies a little bit.
Iowa State - If ISU picks up Mangino's offense right away, this game becomes much more difficult.
@ Pitt
Northwestern
@ Minny - I averaged this one out. If Leidner is a much improved passer, they move down behind @ Illinois. If not, they move up ahead of @ Pitt.
Indiana
@ Illinois - So many trap game factors present in this one.
@ Maryland
Wisconsin
Nebraska

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Confidence - high to low...

Kent St - MAC team at home
Rutgers - I hear they are very bad this season

Illinois - Terrible last year and I don't think much of the HC
Indiana - They can't score enough points
@Navy - Losing Braxton Miller should not change the outcome - all about defense
@Minnesota - I expect dropoff from last season
Cincinnati - I expect Tuberville's Bearcats to battle

@PSU - revenge game for PSU
@Maryland - I have heard they are decent
Va Tech - This might be tough
Michigan - last year was closer than expected

@MSU - the hardest game on the schedule

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Eastern Illinois- they were tougher last year but a change in Coaches and key losses should be easy
Middle Tenn-  should help build for the season
San Jose State- not nearly as tough as they have been
Purdue-  home against a team in search
TCU- lost a kid on D but is an away game
Northwestern- always play them tough and its home
Illinois- away game that is always tough to win on the road
Michigan- due to time of season we might surprise them even on road
Iowa- Pig games are never something to bet the farm on
Nebraska- only because they have a revenge factor and on the road
Ohio State- They are OSU and are in the toughest part of schedule
Wisconsin- The Axe brings a different intensity and as with the Pig games never bet, but Camp Rydell makes this the toughest game.

Who knows. But one thing we do know is he/she knows the name of one of the most iconic stadiums in college football.

Not only has it been standing for almost a century, but the grounds housed Camp Randall - a training area for soldiers during the Civil War.

This is just another example of bush league.

I Do respect Andersen.  Hated Bertie boy and thought he kind of screwed your team over.  but you did upgrade in coaches so it all worked out for the Badgers.

I hope the game at the end of the year is competitive!

That's for sure. What kind of record are you seeing? I'm actually not trying to stir anything up, but my early guess was that Maryland would win at home.

Fair enough, but Camp Randall is a sacred place and should be respected.

As for BB... I feel no ill-will for him. It was time for him to go. He wore out his welcome with many fans and the big money guys, and his boss was getting tired of the off-field stuff.

Plus, it was time for him to see if he could build a program on his own.

He did a good job. Won a lot of games and kept the program clean and thug-free. I wish him well.

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

  • Kent State - As they say around here, "Kent read, Kent write, Kent State!"
  • Rutgers - I think this would not have been a good season for them even without the league change.
  • Illinois - They just haven't shown improvement.
  • Indiana - I'll believe Indiana has a defense when I see it.
  • Cincinnati - They always seem to battle with us.
  • @Minnesota - TCF is not a particularly imposing venue.
  • @Maryland - This game is early so both could still be adjusting.
  • @Navy - First game of the year breaking in a lot of new guys against an unusual offense could be rough.
  • @PSU - Most imposing road venue we visit this year.
  • VaTech - Early game and Beamer usually has a solid team.
  • Michigan - The last three years the teams haven't really been close but the games have:  In 2011 a much better Michigan team barely won in Ann Arbor.  In 2012 a much better tOSU team barely won in Columbus.  Last year a much better tOSU team barely won in Ann Arbor.
  • @MSU - It would be impressive to win this.

Kentucky - they are getting a bit better
Vanderbilt - they likely are sliding
Georgia Tech - they will give it their best shot
Tennessee - they will be better but not that good
Arkansas - looks like a trap game to me
Missouri - any game in Columbia sounds tough to me

RANKED OPPONENTS:

Clemson - starting the season at home and I think we can win
Florida - always a big doubt in my mind
Auburn - revenge
South Carolina - the Evil Genius at home is a tough out

There are 8 games we SHOULD win and 4 we COULD win, so looks like 10-2 without injuries and such.noidea

Re: Confidence meter for your own team's schedule

Indiana State - IU will win big but I'm more interested in seeing if they give up less than the 35 they gave up last year.
North Texas - IU should win on talent alone. UNT is a solid team for their conference and has a decent defense but IU's offense should win this one. IU also stole one of their defensive assistants so that may help.
Purdue - I don't think Purdue has gotten much better. The Bucket stays in Bloomington.
@ Bowling Green - A lot of people seem to think BG will win. They apparently didn't watch last year's game which wasn't even close. IU gives up a few more points this year but still wins comfortably.
@ Rutgers - A shaky secondary against a potent passing attack? Yes, please.
Penn State - We're going streaking!
Maryland - This should be a fun game.
@ Michigan - Not saying IU will win but I need to see if Michigan's defense has improved since giving up a bazillion yards to IU last year. Isn't that what everyone says about IU?  Looks like the upper hand, is on the other foot this time Michigan!
@ Iowa - IU usually plays Iowa competitively even when IU is bad but teams with a power running game and a solid play action component give IU problems.
@ Missouri - Given Missouri's roster losses from last season I would rank this game about 4 spots lower (in IU"s favor) if it was in Bloomington. But it's not so I won't.
Michigan State - It was a very competitive game the last time MSU came to Bloomington but this MSU is much, much better than that MSU was.
@ Ohio State - Ugh

Iowa is always tough for UW. It's a game that's circled on their calendar (as it is for UW) and it's the second year in a row that it's at their joint. UW won last year, which will make it all that much more difficult.
