You made one big mistake in your post (as did the publication), that those of us in Idaho would never make: You NEVER use the word "scholar" when making any type of reference to BSu.

Its a scanky, 135 acre pile of crap that has a very good football team. While the football team is accomplished, the university is an embarrassing stain on our state's educational system. More aptly put, it is a fund-sucking drainhole.
Link?    BTW, let me be the first to welcome you back to the Big Sky.
I can give you one.  Let me help you K.  (if you don't feel like opening these, I will put it for you)  BSU #67, DUI #160 Regionally.

Really, the only advantage I see for DUI is the endowment funds.  However, I still see no relevance to any of this being on FOOTBALL board.

I just wish an AQ school would hire Petersen and then all of Idaho would very soon go away as far as BCS talk. Just need them Lonhorns to lose out.

LOL  you need to smell reality if you think Petersen is the only reason BSU is in the BCS discussion.  You do realize Boise State has won National Championships at every level prior to the D1A?

And just to give you some highlights (for simplicity we won't go back prior to '73 but the records are just as impressive):

1973Big Sky Conference - (Div. II)10–3 (6–0)
1974Big Sky Conference10–2 (6–0)

Who would know better than a former BSU athlete?  Notice I didn't say "student-athlete" or "BSU graduate."

RE: I read the Big East is interested in Boise ?

With the Boise academics being so bad how is their APR ? They have already been hit by the NCAA and their scholorships have been reduced by 3 a year. The APR score if it gets below 925 it is very hard to come back from. I am from San jose and the SJSU Apr got so low they were a D-1 school with only 67 scholorships a year and it takes at least 5 years to come back from a low APR.

APR has almost nothing to do with comparative academics between schools.  Simplified, it is a method of tracking progress toward graduation and of student-athlete retention.  At BSU, one might be making satisfactory progress toward graduation if he can spell his name correctly.  See the above statement by Marty Tadman for expert testimony.

Oh my.  That APR thing makes the State of Idaho look pretty bad.

6 scholarships lost due to poor APR, all from the U of Idaho.

Maybe people won't notice because the other school is called "Boise State".  Idaho alumni have been complaining about Boise not being a State for many years.  Perhaps in this case it will play to BSU's advantage.  Perhaps everyone on the east coast will miss the guilt by association and mistakenly believe we are in different States.

Rear view mirror.

Me thinks Sagwa, you are an undergrad at the University of Idaho. Interesting. Where did you get your info? My wife is completing her doctorate in Education at Boise State.
sgwau96 wrote: Boise State has a 5% graduation rate over 4 years, 24% after 6 years. eek They really don't have any graduate program. The University of Idaho is the (much) better school in the state. The problem you have if you take Boise State is that long after Chris Petersen leaves you are left with a poor school in the middle of nowhere. It is extremely unlikely BSU will ever rise up to even be a Clemson academically, let alone a Miami of Ohio. So its never going to have a rich alumni base to support the program. That is why even when the Big XII looked at Boise it was for Football only.

One also wonders if Petersen can duplicate his success in a conference without ties to his native California to recruit from. Boise State appears worried about that as well and is hesitant to join  so its probably moot. The best BSU can ever expect realistically, despite having a top level coach, is a mid-major conference. Sooner or later Petersen will realize he is not ever going to get into an AQ at BSU.

umm, so I thought the discussion was Boise was not a highly touted Academic School.
OldBronco countered with, we are getting better and starting up new research.
The response to that was, actually they canceled their new research endeavors.
And this is the reply we get? Idaho is also canceling research?

I believe you used both Ad hominem (attacking the person not the issue) and Circumvention (to go around or avoid the argument).
Argument: "You are short."
Response: "Oh yeah, your ugly; and this other random person is shorter, so you are wrong."

THE TOP AMERICAN RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES
http://mup.asu.edu/research2009.pdf
It's a 200 Page plus report listing all kinds of academic merits. Boise is mentioned once, and that is for having 8 scholars at their University...Not something I would be all that happy about.

Maybe the Big East will take you, you do have a really fine football program.

Perhaps low brow vandals like yourself should spend a little more time pondering where the U of I will wind up when the MWC takes USU and SJSU after Boise State and AFA depart for the Big East and finally drive a stake through the withered heart of the WAC rather than wasting your time here spouting lies and garbage about Boise State.

I actually feel sorry for some Vandal fans who are not petty lying hate mongers like yourself. People like you OTOH deserve the crap sandwich you are going to be munching on after all this conference realignment stuff shakes out. Enjoy. wink

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Oh, really?  My mistake.  I guess I'll believe an anonymous poster on an internet message board over a national publication whose writers quoted Tadman and signed their names to the story.  Yeah - I'll do that.

Former Boise State safety Marty Tadman was among the 48% of the football team's juniors and seniors majoring in communication during the 2007-08 academic year. Boise State's communication program also drew 50% of the juniors and seniors on the men's basketball and women's basketball teams.

"You hear which majors, and which classes, are the easiest and you take them," Tadman says. "You're going to school so you can stay in sports. You're not going for a degree. … It's a joke."

At least they know how to spell their major.  OH, WAIT!!

I will ask him  the next time he swings by our tailgate, Johnson probably didin't spell that.  I realize the Vandals are one of biggest jokes in college football. What are yolu doing trolling in here, you really think you have a chance to end up in the Big East?  Amazing someone like you with your amazing degree has time to troll in here.

Thank God that you've uncovered the truth.....Boise State is the only school where kids enroll for a sport, not the education.  rolleyes Every college program is filled with players who joined for the athletics, not the education.

A kid enrolling in a college so he can continuing doing what he loves......no problem here.  If he takes advantage of the opportunity & picks up a degree along the way, great.  The NCAA makes hundreds of millions off their backs while throwing around cute terms like "student-athletes."  If you want to kids to be serious about their education, take the sports out so they can focus on studying.

Absolutely PERFECT response.  Thank you.

When did you say BJC is joining the NFC West?

How many kids on DUI's roster are there for the game rather than the education?

BSU wouldn't be the worst team in the NFC West.
