Re: SDSU Staying in MWC

Crud!  I was happy to see Boise State back out, but not SDSU.  The Big East thing never made a lot of sense to me.  I hope they both have to pay the Big West some money for wasting everyone's time.

Trevor, can you pull down those two banners from historic Titan Gym?  For once, the school was TOO proactive!

Also, credit for being proactive enough to put Boise and SDSU on the far right, and Pacific's on the far left...easing in the tear down process without having to re-shift the banners afterwards

Sucks.  They would have increased the exposure for the conference on the basketball side and helped pressure programs to improve more.  A good expansion with minimal travel costs is never a bad thing.  It will be interesting to see if the conference tries another route to expand.

Re: SDSU Staying in MWC

After Pacific leaves next year, that leaves us with an even 8. Since we do not have any need for 12 members in order to qualify for a conference football championship, I do not sense any great urgency in expanding unless an extremely beneficial opportunity arises. Besides, who would we expand with? There's already a lot of resistance to Bakersfield… UCSD, if they moved to Division I? Even though the WAC is dying, football schools like SJS will most likely want to find a football conference.

For now, eight is enough.

Just when I thought the big west was heading up hill.  sdsu screws it up..  So now we will be sitting at an awkward 9 still next year.  Who can we get now to make it 10? or to what we were heading for, 12?  UNLV, Fresno, nevada, san jose, sf.....

I feel the same, Woodie.

When we played LV and Fresno, it made recruiting better for everyone.

When Boise State backed out of the Big West, I read that they had to pay for an amount to the Big West.  So I presume that San Diego State has to pay as well.

If we had football we would not have to worry about this nickel and dime crap. We would be in the MWC just like them.

Re: SDSU Staying in MWC

Boise St does have to pay an exit fee to the Big West I don't believe SDSU has to, the big loss is the expanded TV coverage we would have received.SDSU was really pushing the Big West brand and profile and was working to get the conference more TV time for when they arrived.Gone Baby Gone!

Re: SDSU Staying in MWC

It's unfortunate, but I'm not surprised. Well, it's back to an odd-numbered teams in the conference. And that means the talk of schools not ready for D-1 coming into the BWC will continue. By that I mean Bakersfield, Utah Valley and UC San Diego and I'm sure others. Hopefully, the conference officials will wait for a school that's that right fit rather than panicking.

The Boise State and SDSU banners were removed from Historic Titan Gym some time prior to Thursday's women's basketball game.  That was pretty darn fast for us!

A single Big West banner was put in their place.  When the UOP banner is removed at the end of the season, the banners will be balanced.

Re: SDSU Staying in MWC

I agree on San Jose but as long as they have football, they're not coming. Disagree on the others. Northridge is fine and I do not want Sac State. I fail to see what they add and know they will hurt baseball.
