Texas Southern Game Thread
Game time Sunday is high noon. Looks like an unpredictable team. Record is 1-8 and RPI is 226 (ours is nearly a hundred points less at 322 which is last in the Big West) but they have lost to SDSU by 12, lost to Pac-12 Colorado in double overtime and last lost to Houston in overtime, all on the road. This is only their third home game. Top two leading scorers are 5-9 guards. Third leading scorer and top rebounder is a 6-9 240 lb center. Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
Ok TC, now you scared ATF with some mis-information. Their 3rd leading scorer and top rebounder is only 6'7" and 185 lbs, not 6'9" and 240. That big guy plays only 18 minurtes a game (8th on the team, though he usually starts), and averages 5.4 pts (6th on team) and 5.0 rebs (2nd on team).
ATF, you are afraid we lose by 15? Uh, this is a SWAC team, you know. I guess its possible, but that would really surprise me. I expect to win. Except for the big guy who doesn't play all that much, they are smaller than we are.

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
I doubt it was this player who scared ATF, but you are correct about their big man and his stats (he looks to be a player in foul trouble. Did play 30min in their lone win). What scared ATF was likely the fact that they have played some good competition on, almost pulled off some upsets and they will now be at home, hungry for a win. I do find it interesting that the oddsmakers have been ignoring out last two games. We will live and die by the three today

RE: Texas Southern Game Thread
6:00 to go in the second half and Titans are up by 4 points, and TSU has 9 fouls. Really a time to draw some fouls and put up some free throws, don't you think?!?!?!?

RE: Texas Southern Game Thread
Darius tipped a reboud to self with the aid of leg crutches. The refs missed the call. Darius on stat books for his first rebound as a Titan.

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
Probably their most complete offensive effort. Seeley found a way to take the most shots and get the most assists...Vaughn played under control for probably the first time all year.
The role players did their part. Some things to work on defensively, but a nice overall effort.

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
It sounded like Vaughn had a slow start, but Deuce and Sammy found a way to contribute early. DJ and Deuce got more attention from defense, allowing Alex, Jared and then Kwame and JD to get in the flow.
DJ should be the BW player of the week.

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread (1 vote)
I am going to say that being down by 5 at halftime seemed to have an effect. Scoring 32 in the first half and 61 in the second half -- they gave a great effort instead of coasting!! Also staying low in fouls -- Seeley only had one foul in the entire game !! Vaughn going 5 of 5 and Deuce going 4 of 5 in free throws -- that's more than enough points for the win.
Now if only there were stats on chest passes...

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
Your apprehension was not completely unfounded. Texas Southern managed to score 37 in the 1st and 49 in the 2nd half, and still found a way to lose the game.

Sigmanu:
I don't know why you would make the observation that "Vaughn played under control for probably the first time all year".
Vaughn shoots a higher percentage and has a lower turnover rate than both Seeley and Yeager, the other two guys who have the ball in their hands alot.
So, nearly 50% FG overall, over 40% from 3 range, and a positive assist/TO ratio is not good enough for you? Wow, and I thought I was tough to please.

Re: Texas Southern Game Thread
Last year, most of Kwame's turnovers were due to offensive fouls (charging) while driving to the hoop. He is doing a lot less of that this year and he is getting more of the benefits of the contacts. I think Kwame is a lot more under control and way smarter this year. When his shots are not falling like today, he gets to the FT line to score.

Wow, and I thought I was tough to please. 3.4/2.9 Assist/TO ratio is not good enough for me...not when you're the point guard...and especially when Alex Harris is 2.4/.8 Also, when you look at the 3 losses, 5-12, 6-19, 7-16...2/3 A/T, 5/4 A/T, 1/1 A/T He was much better today...5/3 A/T...5/8 from the field with 16 points. I did misspeak a bit...he just looked bad of late, he started the season very well.

hozz,
I logged on ESPN shortly after the game ended, and they showed that Darius played two minutes. Yeah, I was fooled!
