Nice to close out and win a game we should. What makes this season so frustrating is I think we're pretty clearly a more talented team than Rutgers, yet they're 13-11 and have 4 conference wins, compared to our 2. As much as we bemoan our recruiting, teams with less or equal talent as us are faring a lot better, and that has to fall on both the players and the coaches.
Other quick thoughts..
1. I'm going to miss Clahar next year. It's a shame he's a senior. He won this game for us.
2. Not an efficient game for Young (PLEASE STOP SHOOTING THREES), but once again he cut down his turnovers. Over the past three games, he's turned the ball over 1, 1, and 0 times. Also, a stat I thought was interesting... Young, our point guard, has 155 free throw attempts this year. Melvin, our primary post scorer, has 101.
3. Is Kirk finally coming around? Third straight game he's provided offense, along with 7 rebounds. I know a lot of people are hoping for OP to pull a true big man out of thin air before the start of next season, but I just don't see it happening. We're going to have to depend on Kirk again, and given how he's played recently, I think he can be an effective 4th scorer. Just needs to learn to rebound.4. Crockett is not right. How much better would we be as team if he were shooting 38% from three (his percentage from last year) instead of 25%? It's also disappointing that he didn't develop any sort of offensive game over the off-season. He either hoists a three, or dribbles the ball sideways 40 feet from the basket. Like Kirk, how he shows up next year is a huge x-factor.5. Apart from a nice steal that lead to a fast break, McKinney was again largely invisible in his 25 minutes. For all the talk of him being our best on the ball defender, I really would've liked to seen him step up and shut down Mack, but it didn't happen. I hope Curington is good enough to cut into McKinney's minutes, because it's really frustrating watching us play 4 on 5 on offense.6. 6 points, 5 rebounds in 16 minutes for Robertson. First time he's scored in almost a month (1/19 vs St. Johns).7. Finally, Myles Mack is an absolute STUD.
