Re: Manti T'eo

if true, could get ugly....

if true, probably a innocent lie that got perpetuated...we all have done things like this in our lifetime.  With things like FB and newspaper archives and the like, things don't get swept under the rug so easily anymore.

Edit:  sounds like ND is going to make an official statement on this shortly, so this is going to get wild...

statement from ND

wow!...some weird $hit...

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

RE: Manti T'eo

Total fraud.

As a person and a player.

Now he pays the price $$$$$$$$$

The University needs to separate themselves from this idiot and not try to protect him.

Re: Manti T'eo

not really...we all make up $hit from time to time....maybe he's gay and wanted everyone to believe he had a girlfriend.   I remember sitting in 7th grade English class one January listening to everyone's oral story of what they did for Christmas (class assignment) and thinking 95% of the stories were total BS (I came from a relatively poor neighborhood).  It is what it is...

Re: Manti T'eo

or, how many people in this world get duped by meeting someone online and then finding out they weren't real or weren't exactly who they were led to believe...

statement from Manti

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. "To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. "It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life. "I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been. "In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. "Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft."

Re: ND presser tonight

it looks like Manti was a victim here.  I'm sure many people in this world have been duped by love online.   Probably has a vivid imagination.

The worst case scenario is that Manti was doing this just to pump up his Heisman voting, and I find that hard to believe that he, or anyone else, would be that stupid.

Calling him the victim is lol worthy. Read the story. Lot and lot of holes in the story. Hard to feel like he is a victim in this

Re: ND presser tonight

Wasn't the first encounter of meeting this supposed girl after a Stanford-ND game in Palo Alto? After that it was supposed to be an online/long-distance relationship.

Re: ND presser tonight

http://espn.go.com/college-foo...apparently-hoax

apparently at least one other NFL player believes this person exists/existed, so I for one believe more and more that this was a scam.  I talked to my wife, who is an investigator, about this and she said that this type of online dating scam is all-too-common and she's seen many instances of people who have been suckered for years.  Is Manti naive? - probably.  Used bad judgement? Probably.  Why couldn't he score on campus or at nearby St. Mary's College?  Don't know, but he is Mormon.  In many respects, he is a perfect profile of a potential victim - young sheltered Eagle Scout very religous kid, high profile.  Highly doubtful he would perpetrate this.

Since the university itself is involved, I'm reasonably sure now that Manti is a victim here.  The story you read with 'holes' is sensationalistic and from one angle.

Reagan Mauia, an Arizona Cardinals fullback, said he believes Kekua existed because he met her in person when he and other Polynesian teammates and Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu went to do charity work in American Samoa in June 2011.

"This was before her and Manti," Mauia said Wednesday evening. "I don't think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was -- I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa."

Mauia said Tuiasosopo -- whom Mauia believes is Kekua's cousin -- introduced the two. After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an "after-party" for all of the athletes involved in the camp.

"She was tall," he said. "Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model ... "

He said it is his understanding that Kekua's mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he'd never met her mother.

When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said: "No, she is real."

I've got a headache.

Swarbrick sure seems to be backing him to the hilt.

All I know is that the truth will eventually come out.  It always does.

I'm sure they can corroborate the phone calls with records and what not.

Re: Manti T'eo

NFL already knows he's gay. The guy is a fraud just like the team he played for.  You are a stud, the man on campus, and you are emotionally touched by a girl on line. Girls just throw themselves to and you come up with a girl that no one knows. He is trying to hide his gayness.
