I am done! Petition?

Posted: 1/3/2013 9:29 AM

I am done! Petition?

As a DePaul Alum, I am getting really sick of this. This is worse than being a loyal Cubs fan! At least the games are fun to go to with the Cubs!

It's so sad and pathetic how much of a joke of team we have become. To be honest I think OP cares, but not enough. Right not there is nothing redeeming about the DePaul basketball.

We have coach that imo just took this deal more for retirement than anything else.

We have an AD who is incompetent on what this program really needs.

We have players that seem to half ass in games.

We have zero audience. I mean the conference opener was last night, and I could count the number of people in attendance on one hand (well not literally). One of the saddest sights I have seen. I think my high school gets a bigger audience.

We are a joke of a team in the Big East and the NCAA. When I read comments in the ESPN section in regards to the Big East, the few times DePaul does pop up in a comment it is usually an insult on how much we suck.

Our marketing is terrible!

Our current logo is a POS. Looks lie we are an Arena Football team.

We play in the boonies, but thank God that will most likely change soon!

Really, I think this program has hit rock bottom and has been there for a while. I think we really need to clean house.

With us being in new conference soon (hopefully), I think it's the perfect time to reinvent the program and the brand. New conference, new stadium (hopefully), new logos, new coach, new AD and new marketing.

DePaul is such a good school in the way it markets itself and how it is continulously improving the DePaul academic brand, I just don't understand why it can't do that when it comes to it's sports.

I feel like starting a petition!

I am on board.  Totally sick!  We are not getting better and there is no reason to believe next year or the year after will be any different.

I'm in. Tired of this as well. Don't think it would matter though. The JW season we went 0-18 a bunch of us wrote JLP and it didn't make a difference.

It could, I mean I am an alum from 08 and have a lot of friends from DePaul, many who share the SAME exact frustrations. If I spread the word to them as well, maybe we can get something really going. Not trying to be insulting, but I knew a few of you on these boards are quite older, so you are not fresh DePaul alums and have probably fell out of contact with fellow classmates. But I know a lot of people still and they also know a lot of people as well.

Honestly, I love this program so much that I even feel like putting together a marketing plan, logo change, rebranding plan etc for them. Maybe they are too imcopetent to do that and need our assistance.

I actually work in change management and company branding (internally), so this is my speciality in line of work. I basically work in helping the company I work for building a global identity and creating a solid infrastructure internally and extrenally.

Re: I am done! Petition?

I admire your passion. Go for it!

What's sad is that were even having this conversation in early January in year 3 with a well paid coach hired to rebuild this program.

So far he has failed. Like to hear JLP's stance on the matter. If the media cared someone be knocking on her door. Kudos to Mike North for putting JLP in her place.

Someone has to care at Depaul. Hope to see a sign of this soon.

Not insulted at all!  I am an 85 alum.  I was around during the best of times.  The program was on top of the college basketball world.  We were America's team thanks to WGN.  We are now at the bottom of the college basketball world.

I cannot imagine someone being sucessful if taking this program down this far even if that was their plan!

Stop it!!!! The fact that you guys come to this board and have stuck it out this long tells me none of you "are done" with DePaul. Sounds great in a post game meltdown. But as soon as the ball goes in the air for our next game you will be watching and pulling for DePaul. By the way loyalty above all. That's why I always say your born with it. You either got it or you don't.

I will be there to watch the next DePaul game and always will be no matter who our brilliant AD brings in as coach. She sure is on a roll here. Hey Bubba I would like to know what you think OP's strengths are? You have said that he has not done the job recruiting. Are you happy with his coaching? Do you think the players have developed under him? Do you think he makes adjustments during games to help the Demons win?

BTW I care so I will definitely be on board to sign the petition.

Bubba is right.  As much as we complain (and rightfully so), we will be back.....not all perhaps, but most of us.  ALL of us have basically had it with this program, but yet here we are.  We are like junkies who are hooked on poison....and much like poison, DePaul hoops makes us quite ill at times...yet we keep coming back for our fix.  So we make ourselves sick, get concussed from banging our heads agains the wall....Why??  Loyalty....just like Bubba said.  This is the price we must pay for being LOYAL DePaul fans.....and it is a HUGE price to paymad

I think you and Bubba are confused. I never said I am done with the program or supporting DePaul. I am done with the status quo and want change! I will support DePaul no matter what, but doesn't mean we just sit here and put up with the status quo.

Re: I am done! Petition?

Yes, this might be a post game meltdown of sorts, however, the players, school and fans deserve MUCH better. There is no improvement and doesn't seem to be in the near or long term.

I'm in on the petition.

Re: I am done! Petition?

I'm in for change is what I meant. Yes, I will always follow Depaul but am I as loyal as I once was NO. The once loyal fan had season tickets, would re-arrange plans around games. Not anymore. The rest of the season will be me checking scores on my phone and maybe catching a game or two on tv. I enjoy this board more than the game and the characters on it. I hope one day to become that super loyal fan, to wake up on a Sat. knowing I'm going to a game. Actually not to be too serious or sappy this program used to be so important to be me because it would be the only time I would see my father (who was a season ticket holder who was divorced from my mother). After Depaul started to go down the tubes under Kennedy he never renewed season tickets again and we stopped going to the games. Its my passion that this program gets back on their feet again not only to bring happiness to this loyal fan but to maybe draw interest for my dad so we can go to games once again. Yes, depaul was once about family. I wish the powers that be at Depaul would realize how much the program means to people and do something about it. One can hope one day.

I hear ya Demonillini.  I wasn't questioning your loyalty and totally get where you are coming from.  The "I am done" quote is something that passes my lips after many DPU games....and I am indeed done...for the day...or the night....then I come back.
I would just forewarn you that a petition or anything else will just fall on deaf ears.  When the JW debacle was at its zenith, many people emailed, called and tried to voice their opinions (including myself) and they were either ignored or dismissed by the administration (again...including myself).  So if you do go with the petition thing.....you might just end up more frustrated. But do what you feel is best....I wont ever fault anybody for that...maybe someday us fans will actually be respected by DePaul.noidea

I was one of them that wrote to JLP and in her defense got a respected reply letter from her saying if I wanted to discuss the situation further that I can call her office. She's willing to listen, its taking action and if she agrees with you is the concerning part.

Dear WindyCity,

Thanks for your support of DePaul Men’s Basketball over the years.  If you would like to speak by phone, please contact my assistant Katie to schedule a time.  If not, thanks for taking the time to share your analysis.

Re: I am done! Petition?

A petition will do absolutely nothing.  And let's assume that DePaul cans Purnell at some point past most people caring, do you have any faith that it will make a good selection for the next coach?  Pat Kennedy could recruit, but couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.  Jerry Wainwright doesn't even merit a comment.  Oliver Purnell is falling into place with his predecessors.  Dave Leitao was the only decent hire (by accident) in the post-Meyer era.  And there was no way that DePaul knew what it was getting with Leitao (based on his less than stellar coaching stint at Northeastern).  Leitao later flopped at Virginia.

What you have is an administration and an AD who are clueless when it comes to understanding the demands of managing a big-time program.  This school is so far removed from its basketball glory, it needs binoculars to look back.

Re: I am done! Petition?

Bigbubba, my sentiments are much like demonillini.  I am not done supporting DePaul.  I want a change.  DPU has been an ongoing trainwreck for too long.

What we have in place is not working and there are no signs that anything will change for the next few years.

I am not sure if it could be done from a financial standpoint.   If not we are in for a long, long ride.  One that is already around 20 years
