Who is the best freshman class to ever come through DePaul

In my opion its from the 80s Rod Strickland Stan Brundy and Terence Greene some of the best of the best in school history

because they won NOTHING and IMO that is the ultimate judge of a class

Has to be Rod Strickland's class, because also include JC transfer (I think) Kevin Edwards.
Both first round picks in 1988. I remember going to the exhibition game that year and thinking
Who are these guys?

They won this city's interest back in Depaul basketball. So all was not lost.

In terms of sheer talent, off the top of my head,

78 - Aguirre/Bradshaw
79 - Grubbs/Cummings
then 85,
then 98,
then Booth/Howard (88?)

The Kleinshmidt class, with TK and Howard Nathan both of which were McDonald's All-Americas.

This is such a depressing thread... Let's revisit this question again when we have a class in this decade that we can put in the conversation.

Don't take this to mean that I am defending recruiting (it hasn't been good) but our 2010 class might be one we look back on.  Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin are both going to leave our school high up in a lot of different parts of the record books.

Very fair point, but (and I know this will get some negative comments) I think that's more because of the staffs ability to develop those two players as well as simply the lack of any talent on the roster when they arrived. They've developed into very good players, but as freshman I don't think either would have gotten more than 15 mpg on most BE teams.

OSD makes a good point though.  Classes are looked at based on what they accomplished. What did they do?

If you look at SamManella's lists of best to play at DPU, you'll see that he uses what they accomplished as a key criteria.

With that thought in mind, Strickland, Greene, Brundy accomplished a lot.

Then you look at Koshwal, Tucker, et al and they accomplished very little.

Melvin, Young, Morgan class has a chance, but they have to start getting things done.

BTW, we just had a similar thread about 6 weeks ago, here is the link... http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s...&t=10466177

Bradshaw and Aguirre were not in the same class.  Bradshaw was a year ahead.

Strickland and Edwards were also not together as freshmen.  Edwards came a year later from junior college.

The Corbin/Patterson class was pretty good.

Was Embry, Holmes or Lampley in that Corbin Class, or all a year behind?

Tomorrow is promised to no one… Walter Payton

If results matter most, then it must be something from the late '70s? My memory is failing: Watkins/Garland/Mitchum--if they were in the same class, it's the winner? Two of those three? Ponsetto and some others in the buildup to the Final Four team?

Help from other old school folks? My memory is failing ....

I am pretty sure Strickland and Edwards came the same year.

If you're going by success, the Garland/Watkins class is the tops since they were cogs of four NCAA tournament teams, 2 Elite Eight teams and 1 Final Four team.

Mitchem transferred in from the University of Denver I believe.

Most heralded class before they took the floor would have to the Richardson class.  Others in the discussion:  Grubbs/Cummings, Strickland/Greene/Brundy, Booth/Howard/Price, Kleinschmidt/Nathan, Comegys/West/Pettis, Corzine/Ponsetto and Tyler/Davis/Cunningham.

Considering Mark Aguirre was the most important recruit in school history, his class which really also included Skip Dillard has to be mentioned as well.

It came down to two schools for Aguirre.  Can anybody tell me what school finished 2nd? (Prof- if you know, give the others a minute or two before you answer)
