Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
Yes, this is why I keep telling people that we need to fire our current assistants. One of our assistant ( guess who) told couple of coaches ( one was Nader's handler) and the other was a HS coach that Abdul Nader wasn't good enough for DPU. They told our assistant that this is what DPU needs and our assistant laughed at them. Now the jokes are on us.
Until we hire a new staff we won't get the players we need to be successful in this league or any other league. We offer kids that has no business playing for us and we let kids who can walk away. Yes, we could have landed Nader but we didn't thnk he was good enough. Our staff can't evaluate talent, and it needs to be corrected.

I remember Nadar at a DePaul game and him saying he was never interested in DePaul. For some reason he thought he was going to a big time HM school.
He had a good stat day but I was not that impressed.

Why is Nader so out of shape and overweight? I'm not denying the talent, but the conditioning and substance abuse arena little concerning.
That being said, he was the best scorer on the floor tonight.

Hey Mush, since you're so interested in gossip.
What do you think of the gossip that was on Twitter about NIU paying a certain street agent to get Nader?

Re: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
Nader just got back. This was only his 2nd game coming back from team suspension. So him dropping 20 on us was just pre-season for him.
DJ, he said that bc DPU wasn't interested in him. I have spoken to people who had some influence on him and told me he would go if offered.

BBD, why are you getting angry ? Why do you constantly try to protect this staff when they have failed. I understand, you can't be 100 % honest but seriously...

Maybe he had past "character" issues that deemed him not DPU material.

I asked you a question about something I read recently and you ducked it. So, I'll ask it again. Hey Mush, since you're so interested in gossip. What do you think of the gossip that was on Twitter about NIU paying a certain street agent to get Nader?

You don't want to go there BBD...I can say the same with "Boys to Men" to get certain players.

Re: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
I don't think a $ amount was mentioned, just that a certain street agent peddled the kid to schools in exchange for cash and NIU took the offer.
I do know that at the time, most schools were recruiting Nader for the following academic year with the understanding that he was reclassifying and then suddenly NIU took him and he qualified.
Bear in mind, I have no direct knowledge of this. It was an unsubstantiated rumor on Twitter. But I know Mush loves those kind of rumors.

so exactly how does Nader fit in with the athletic full-court pressing type of player that OP wants? Uh-huh.

Nader was in bad shape and out of condition. Can't say I remember a non post scorer putting up so many points while being so bad with the ball in his hands. Weak dribbler.

RE: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
I was at the game.. Nader has game and is def a high major player. A 6-7 power forward who can face up and put the ball on ground and create own shot.

Re: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
I suspect that this speaks more to your player evaluation rather then the Assistant Coaches. It is clear that while Nader has some talent, he does not fit OP's system. Why would you recruit someone who doesn't fit?

Re: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
You need to recruit guys who can play, don't get caught up on Oops system...What good if the guy can run and jump but can't play ? What makes you think that he can't play in Oops system ? This is his only 2nd game back, at 6'7" he was NIU's tallest player on the court, the kid is just a Soph. and he was ALL MAC team last season. He did put up 20pts vs Oops best defensive system players.
The point was that we don't close on players, coaching evaluations on players are VERY POOR and we let kids who wants to come that can actually play let him walk away. Would BG Jr. fit into your so called system player ?

Re: Our assistant didn't think Nadar was BE material...
I suspect we will just disagree. Every Coach has a system that they recruit to. The Patriots & Packers have style of offense they requires a certain type of player - not always the highest recruitment. Every D1 Te has a player that will average 15-20 ppg - not all will fit the Demons.
On DPU, Nader would change the dynamic of The Team to a half court, non-pressing offense which is not what the staff wants (like it or not). With your critical eye on the coach, you would likely punish him for recruiting an overweight suspension-prone player like Nader. He reminds me of a smaller version of Wesley Green.
