ASU baseball fans-best in the valley

How many of you out there go to the pro sports venues in town and think to yourself "Do these people even understand the sport they are cheering here".  When I go to the pro sports events I don't really see the passion and excitement unless the jumbotron says to make noise or they are doing a hokey race on the screen.  I don't ever hear sophisticated sports conversation in the stands and I don't really see a true loyalty to the team.  The Suns used to have a great crowd when they played at the old Coliseum but the crowd went corporate when they moved downtown.

At Packard the fans really understand the game-stay loyal-respectful-loud when appropriate.  One of my favorite moments at Packard was a few years ago in the regionals when they played Oral Roberts.  The Oral Roberts pitcher had battled Mike Leake all night and when he was pulled in the 9th inning the ASU crowd gave him a long-loud standing ovation.  It was reported in AZcentral that this act of classiness moved the pitchers mom to tears.  I don't think you would ever see a crowd reaction like this at any other sporting event in the valley.  Just another reason why I love going to ASU baseball games more than any other event here in town.

I've got partial season tickets and go to about 15 games per year.  I agree that ASU baseball fans are some of the most knowledgeable and respectful fans you will see at any sporting event in the Valley.   Last night ASU fans were very appreciative of Riverside's starting pitcher when he was pulled and gave a couple standing ovations for fielding gems by Riverside's infielders.

UA graduation rates: 10th worst in nation in basketball; 3rd worst in nation in football; and worst in nation in baseball.

Not only are the fans great, but dollar for dollar it is the best athletic event in the valley.
