If that info is to be believed we've got some great coaches to choose from, which most people thought would be case.

Re: More Sources

As I said in another thread Serrano is an intriguing conduct.  Protege of George Horton, success UC Irvine and CSUF and was slowly turning Tennessee around.  Vandy is the big dog in that state when it comes to baseball and maybe he is looking to return to the west

Re: More Sources

So is Tracy Smith a candidate or not?   Over the weekend we heard he told ASU he was not going to interview.  So is this just restating that ASU wants to talk to him even if he does not?

This is the second time now we have Dave Serrano thrown out.  Does anyone remember why he left Fullerton?  Was it for $$?

This site did not mention Monte Lee at all and he is the only one who we know actually has a real life interview.

So according to this John Savage or his agent at least wants it known that Savage has interest in the ASU job.  Is it real interest or is it his agent playing this so he can go to UCLA and force them to build the new ballpark they need and upgrade the poor facilities.

Man lots of names floating around that are bigger then the ones we have been hearing.   Serrano and Savage and even Smith are some big boy names.

Yeah it list Savage in one line then at the bottom of the page it talks about Smith and Serrano.

Any one of those 3 guys would be a good get.  All 3 have west coast connections in SoCal

Re: More Sources

Serrano isn't leaving Tennessee. Spray, everybody knows why he left Fullerton. Not picking on you, but some people on this board have no idea what and why things happened in the past with some people. They mention Holliday, and think we can get him. Got his start with ASU, went to Vandy and got moved up to top assistant (and 3Xs the money), and then home to Stillwater as head coach at his dream job. Casey will not even listen to ASU because of his friendship with Murph. These are just examples.
I just want a coach and assistants that can recruit the West and Texas. A new pitching coach?
Esmay should have hired assistants that could make their mark in recruiting like Travis J. did.
ASU would have a solid hire in Coach Jewett.

Re: More Sources

Travis Jewett has no head coaching experience in major baseball. Not a disrespect just assumed asu didn't want a rookie running the show. Why did Serrano leave Fullerton? How would that conflict with being hired at asu(the 1st question might answer the 2nd) Serrano is very well respected.

Isn't Tennessee a historically better baseball school than Vandy? I get Vandy is rolling this year but seems like UT has been to CWS more over the last decade.

Why don't you enlighten us ignorant masses then

Jewitt has no head coaching experience.

You were a supporter of Esmay weren't you

No, not since Corbin took over.  Tennessee hasn't been to the CWS since 2005, and before that 2001. They have had a losing record since their long time coach DelMonico left. Vandy twice since 2011

Which is it? Everyone knows why Serrano left csuf or many don't? I do not. I don't follow csuf baseball, I doubt many do here. If you know something relevant to the coaching search or the candidates I would be very interested in hearing it. Is there baggage with Serrano we don't know about?

And those weren't fluke runs either.  Vandy has been really good the past 5+ years.

Re: More Sources

I went over to the Fullerton board and they said plane and simple it was for Money $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, that is why Serrano left.   Now I have no clue if he wants to leave the SEC or his agent is just using this hoping to throw his name out so UT gives him more money but according to the fans on the Fullerton board he left for money $$$$$.

More intriguing if it is true at all is John Savage and his agent trying to make their name known to ASU.  According to that article they made it sound Savage wants us or at least our attention.  Again though like with Serrano I wonder if this is just the agent using this to go back to UCLA and say "Hey Bruins where is my new ballpark you keep telling me you are going to build me and my new practice facility?"   Or does Savage have a genuine interest in ASU?

Also we have Tracy Smith who Aaron Fitt or someone said had no interest in the ASU job but we have Metcalfe at AZcentral and now this website saying not only is he a candidate but ASU has requested an interview with him.

This website did not mention Holiday I think that was just fans on this board.

Just talked to a couple Bruin grads who are season ticket holders and apparently Savage is in fact upset that UCLA refuses to invest into their program.

Re: More Sources

Yup that was a rumor last off season when they could not get any renovations done to Jackie Robinson Stadium and then there was talk about the VA who owns the land tearing it down.  If Savage is truly upset about those god awful and they are really bad facilities then we should make a play.  But dude makes $1.2 million, I love ASU baseball but I cant see us paying that at all.

Re: More Sources

The 2 sources I talked to seemed to think that he would take less money to come to ASU because

1) We're a better program
2) Cost of living in LA is much higher
3) Taxes
4) ASU is in a great recruiting place because we basically have AZ locked down plus we are the option for kids that want to go away for college but be able to drive home. At UCLA he competes for the kids that want to stay home with CSF, USC, Irvine, Cal Poly, LBSU etc.

Really doesn't look good for UCLA moving forward.

Serrano or Savage would be really good gets.  I'm sorry but a west coast guy in Tenn. just isn't much of a fit.  Come back west Serrano.
