Washington State vs. ASU Game Thread

Washington State vs. ASU Game Thread

Tonight the Sun Devils look to secure their 20th win of the season, a season sweep of the Cougars and maintain their positioning in the tight Pac-12 race as we enter the last three weeks of the conference season.

A win tonight would give Arizona State its fourth 20 win season in Head Coach Herb Sendek's seven years in Tempe, an impressive feat considering the program had only won 20+ games in a season three times in the 25 years before his arrival.

ASU is 14-3 this year and with wins over both the washington schools this week can match the most home wins by a Sun Devil squad in any given season. The 2009-10 went 16-3. Shoutout to Derek Glasser, Ty Abbott, Eric Boatneg, Jarren Shipp and Jamelle McMillan.

Judging by how things have gone lately, I guess we can assume tonight's game will be another close one for the Devils. Nine of ASU's 13 conference games have been decided by five or fewer points, including the last six.

Carrick Felix is averaging a league-high 38.3 minutes per game. Jahii Carson isn't far behind at 37.8 and Jon Gilling with 36.2.

Expect the Sun Devils to go with Chris Colvin at the two guard position tonight as Sendek indicated earlier in the week that he liked the match-ups that lineup presents for his team on both ends of the floor, and especially with Evan Gordon providing a scoring punch off the bench.

Notice how well we play when we attack the rim.  All of our points in the paint so far.

So this is weird, but the student section is actively trying to not make any noise right now. Lots of hand waving, but no cheering. I don't get it.

9-4 ASU, 15:55.

So it turns out the students are not cheering until the team scores 13 points...because it's James Harden night, as someone pointed out earlier. I don't get it, but sure.

Royce Woolridge with five early points in his return to the Valley.

ASU still leads, 9-7, 14:30.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for a team to play primarily zone against us.  We once again can't hit anything from the outside.

I wish ASU would hurry up and get to 13 already...this place is creepy when it's this quiet.

9-9, 13:20.

Maybe they'll change their mind at the 13 minute point.

Sorry for being so fascinated by this, but the students are actually mouthing the chants to one another. When I was a student we could barely get them to show up, now they're doing this!?!

When we don't push the ball the offense is bad.
