Re: Beat Utah!
ASU is going to have to beat Colorado twice this year to have any chance of getting a high enough RPI. Colorado is currently at #7 in most RPI rankings and prob should be in the 20-30 range once settled. Outside of Zona, ASU wont have an opportunity against a top 10 RPI team unless UCLA hits a streak. This means the CO games are paramount to a top 50 RPI and tourny consideration. Lets get by a young but tough Utah team and just go throttle down vs. Colorado.

We play Wed night, and CO plays UA on Thur night; so we have an extra day for preparation. CO will go all out to beat UA, and is probably paying little attention to us.

--------------------------------------------- Should have been here when Sendek was initially hired and in his first few years when I was defending him 100%. This is year 7........and you're trying to get everybody fired up about the PAC pre-season #11 Sun Devils beating the PAC pre-season #12 Utes. I asked a question and you have no answer because a win would prove nothing other than we're better than the worst team in the PAC.

Re: Beat Utah!
You have serious issues. The doubters comment was a general statement. This is the next game on the schedule that we must play and the first step to proving doubters wrong. And of course you would find a way to make that simple comment a knock on Herb. The thing "we" doubt about Herb is his ability to make ASU a consistent NCAA Tourney and top-25 team. Given that it's year 7 and those goals are nowhere in sight, I'd say that the Herb Doubters are correct. So at what point are you going to admit that you're wrong and that ASU is better served moving in a different direction?
My guess is that you're a Sendek fan first and ASU basketball second.

Then why bring up Sendek at all and try and call out those who want ASU to be a meaningful program, rather than win against lesser competition? Don't try to get all holier than thou now. You knew exactly what you were doing in your original post. There a reason why ASU at 11-2 isn't anywhere near ranked in the top-25. It's because the teams we've beaten are terrible. The win total is meaningless and intended to make the coach "appear" to be good while doing nothing for the program.

RE: Beat Utah!
Denver, you are trying to limit his desire for Herb to prove the doubters wrong to just the Utah game. We’re about to start the Pac-12 schedule and isn’t it possible that his rooting for Herb was meant for the rest of the season?

The DenverDevil poster said nothing about wanting your team to lose. He just said that a win would not prove anything. Gee, you ASU fans are so insecure ... Utah is tough! They just beat Albertson College. I believe Albertson took their best cashiers and checkout clerks to form that team. jmwhitener wrote: You have to be the most negative poster I have ever seen. I guess you haven't followed his agenda to oust Sendek. Re: Beat Utah!
Consistent top 25 team and NCAA tourney team means we have to recruit well. Too recruit well you need to have legacy and history to get players that want to win ANOTHER championship for the university. We don't have any of that. What we have is one of the best bball coaches ASU has had. It's not like we were a top 25 program before either. He had a bad season last year and he's doing better. Get off his back. There are schools with deep basketball roots and those that don't. One can hire a decent coach because the "school" recruits to itself. The other needs to hire a coach who can recruit elite kids to him. Sendek is not that guy. Sendek is not one of the best coaches we've had. He's had ONE good year here and that was 2005. 2004 and 2006 he won 20+ games by playing a WEAK OOC schedule. It was fool's gold all the way and why we didn't get an NCAA Tourney invite. Sendek is 109-98 in his 7th season, with 1 NCAA Tourney and a consistently weak OOC schedule. A 53% winning percentage. Evans, who we fired for not getting it done, was 119-120 in 8 years with 1 NCAA Tourney. A 50% winning percentage....hmmm, remarkably similar. And to correct you, we had a bad season the last TWO years. He needs to go in the same way Erickson needed to go. It's what's best for ASU.

Denver Devil, I know you are obsessed with firing Sendek; but you need to look at the circumstances that apply to the situations, not just look at the statistics themselves. For example: (1) Sendek has had three terrible years weighing down his won/loss percentage. In his first year, he inherited virtually nothing from Evans except Pendergraph. Coach K could have inherited that group and not done much better. I was impressed with how hard our players played that first year. Last year, we had no true point guard. If we would have had Carson, we would have won 6 or 7 more games, and everyone would have been reasonably happy. (2) You stated Sendek has had ONE good year, 2005. I say THREE. (I noted your season dates were totally wrong--how can you be so critical when your 'facts' are incorrect?) In 2008 (not 2004), we finished ahead of UA in the conference and beat them twice. The NCAA jumped UA ahead of us, and stated it was because of RPI. It is possible (and I think reality) that it was political. Olson and UA had a lot of friends on the selection committee, we had zilch or negative representation. If you look at other tournament years, RPI is not the sole determinate of being selected/not selected. In 2010 (not 2006), we finished 2nd in the PAC-12, and Sendek was selected PAC-10 Coach of the Year. This was our highest finish in the PAC-10 since 1982 or so, but you think it was a bad year!!!

Re: Beat Utah!
My mistake when typing. 2009 was the good year. 2008 and 2010 were fool's gold hyped by a weak OOC which gave way to a high RPI. uofeh got in because they played a much tougher OOC than we did. How did 2010 finish again?
While Sendek didn't inherit a lot when he was hired, the difference between him and a legit coach is that we wouldn't be still talking about rebuilding in year 7 like we are. All I hear from the Sendek lovers is praise over beating crap teams and excuses for why ASU "will never" be an elite program.
At the end of the day Sendek is being paid millions of dollars to make ASU a consistent top-25 and NCAA tourney team. He was hired and is being paid millions of dollars to overcome the hurdles that the ASU program has. This shouldn't have been a shock to him. He knew what ASU was when he accepted the job but now has excuse after excuse for why things aren't better.
His scheduling, coaching and recruiting is not taking ASU to where he was hired to go. Either stop with the excuses for Sendek not doing his job, or admit to everyone that you don't believe in ASU's ability to achieve success.
This is year 7.
