ASU-Cornell Game Thread 11.20.12

The Sun Devils take to the hardwood tonight against the Big Red of Cornell after improving to 2-0 following Sunday's decisive win over Florida A&M. ASU will be attempting to become 3-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Entering tonight's contest, Arizona State is 5-0 all-time in game's against the Ivy League with victories over Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth and Penn.

This will be the second leg of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, after which the Sun Devls will travel to Las Vegas to take on Arkansas on Friday night.

A couple quick notes before we dive into tonight's game thread that you may or may not know about the Sun Devil basketball team...

Sunday's win marked the 100th win for Head Coach Herb Sendek at ASU, making him the fourth coach to ever accomplish that feat for the Sun Devils. Ned Wulk is still the standard though with 406 career wins.

Jordan Bachynski is currently ranked tenth on the Arizona State all-time list for blocked shots with 76. In his sight are Mike Batiste and Sam Williams with 83 blocks. Mario Bennett holds the record with 191.

The 97 points ASU scored in Sunday's tilt against FAMU was the third most in the Sendek era and another positive sign of a changed style of play this year for the team.

ASU has recorded consecutive games with 11 blocked shots to start the season, the most in the Sendek era.

Tonight's game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Follow along for updates on here and Twitter.

Go Devils!!

Not sure if you guys watching at home can see it, but Carrick Felix has led the team in the huddle following the introductions in each game this year, sort of hyping them up. It's good to see him taking that leadership role every which way he can. It's clearly his team.

After a scoreless first few trips down the floor, Carson finds Gilling underneath the hoop for a quick two, pulling the Devils within one.

Devils targeting Bachynski early on but so far Cornell is keeping him well defended around the hoop.

All three Sun Devil field goals so far have been of the 3 point variety; Felix with one and Gilling with the other two.

9-5 Devils, 13:30.

Chris Colvin checks in for Felix, complementing Gordon and Carson on the floor at the same time...a lineup Sendek has thrown out there a couple of times with considerable success int he first two games.

11-9, ASU. 11:48.

Bachynski really having trouble asserting himself on the block, as that Gilling pass sails through his hands, resulting in the fourth ASU turnover as we approach the mid-way mark of the first half.

You can say the same on offense as well. ASU has already attempted eight 3 pointers through the first nine games. Would like to see Carson or Colvin attack the hoop or else get into the paint and try to create for others.

Much like the rest of the Ivy League schools, Cornell plays at a very methodical pace. ASU having a difficult figuring out when to go and when to slow.

Someone in the student section just shouted out that Jahii Carson sucks after he missed that last free throw. That's grounds for ejected from the arena, right? Yikes!

A lot of finger pointing going on in the student section right now. That was definitely odd. The kid is sitting in the front row.
