Georgia 42, ASU 14.

Posted: 07/28/2008 12:08 PM

Georgia 42, ASU 14.

The game will be pretty close to over at halftime (28-7).

ASU's OL is going to have a really tough time with the UGA DL.  And UGA is even better at LB and DB.

This will put ASU's defense on the field a lot, and it just won't have enough to slow down Stafford/Moreno.

Pretty similar game to ASU/USC last year.

Agree/Disagree and why?

Disagree.

1.  We'll be better than we were last year.
2.  The ASU/USC games was not over by halftime.  We were tied late in the second and then USC had the long pass to RoJo and a FG to get a decent lead.  But, the game wasn't over yet.  USC curb stomped us in the second half.
3.  Your FB is out.  From UGa prognosticators, when healthy he makes Mike Alstott and Owen Schmitt (surely you Georgia fans remember him) seem like Pop Warner players.
4.  Not all of your players arrested over the summer will be through their punishments by the ASU game.

Disagree – Because I don’t care who you are and who you are playing it is a bit arrogant to predict a score like that …

Oh - I am a Dawg fan too!

If you enjoy ticking folks off - try road rage ... it's more fun if there is a chance you might get shot!

PAC10Number1 -

1 - I totally agree with you ...

2 - I totally agree with you ...

3 - Our whole offense does not revolve around Sutherland ... is he a big loss - sure ... but not a game changer ...

4 - He deserved that as a responce ... but, I do believe they will ... except Lemon who is no longer on the team...

I was kidding about the last two 100%.  We'll be better if we can get better pass blocking.  If not, we're in big trouble against you.  The over by halftime comment was only appropriate for the Texas game.  We were a really strong 2nd half team last year (except for the USC game).

Most ASU fans have reasonable expectations -- Georgia should be favored, but it will be a close, hard fought game.  At times, it's hard to take the over the top predictions without responding in kind.  Could we blow out Georgia?  Doubtful.  Could Georgia blow us out?  A little more probable, but still not very likely.

Eh.  Southerland should be the best FB in the country, but he's still just a FB.  And fwiw, the latest reports are that he won't miss more than a game or two.  Shaun Chapas, our backup FB, is very solid and experienced as well anyway.

And all of our suspended players will be back by ASU.   The only one that matters any is Clint Boling (OG), and he will only miss 2 games.

Obligatory 52-21 ASU.

Fair enough.

What leads you to think that will be the score?

1.  Both teams will be better than last year.  ASU might show more improvement than UGA over last year, but I still believe UGA was stronger to begin with.
2.  Don't expect this game to be over by halftime.  It should be a competitive game for at least 3 1/2 quarters or more.
3.  Southerland is out, but he is healing faster than expected.  He was projected to be ready to play against Alabama (our game one week after ASU), but might return a week earlier and could play against ASU.
4.  Some of the players that got into trouble this summer are suspended for the first two games of the year.  They will be ready in time for ASU.  Of course, summer is not over yet....
Hunker down you hairy Dawgs!

You said that ASU will be better than last year... but didn't say why.

In what ways will ASU be better than last year?

On Georgia's end, we were #2 last year, but we will be better (mainly from being more experienced) at every single position except for kicker.

Why do you expect this game to be so close?  Just curious.  Be specific.

When you quoted ASUndevilFan you left out the most important word in his post.  By obligatory he meant that he is obligated to make a complete homer prediction, kind of like yours.  Did you get that?

Oh.

So what do you think the score will be?

Who knows?  I think it will be decided by one or two scores, and I think UGA will likely win the game if I had to guess right meow.  High 20's to low 30's for both teams.  Let's say 35-30, UGA wins.

Obligatory 66 - 10 ASU.

Just kidding.

I think UGA comes out on top, but it should be a really good game, or at least we can hope.  I say somewhere around 31 - 23 Georgia.

Fair enough.

A lot of people predicted a similar outcome for UGA/Hawaii.  Georgia in a high-scoring, close game.  And quite a few CFB analysts picked Hawaii to win.

Looking at ASU's OL, I see: 1) an OL that wasn't very good last year and has 3 new starters this year and 2) more Hawaiians.

We return basically our entire defense from last year.

All this leads me to think this should be a game similar to the '08 Sugar Bowl.

Re: Georgia 42, ASU 14.

Here is one for you.

RG - Paul Fanaika -Senior 6-6 359

RT - Richard Tuitu'u -Junior 6-4 353

These dudes can flat move folks!  These guys are HUGE and have experience.  Our pass D you always read about was bad, but the ASU run game was solid last year.  The sacks were due to other factors than the line (holding ball too long, RB's missing blocks).

Sure, on 4th and 1 UGA can stack the side and create a stalemate, but your D-coordinator will have no idea when we will run right.  You may be surprised by this but I'm here to tell you now that only the very top Defensive lines in the nation will be able to keep the right side of the ASU line from getting the 3 yard run plays they need in 3rd and 4th and short situations.  I know it sounds crazy!  But, you will see ASU handle Georgia up front on some situations.  Just wait.

As far as your score prediction, it's just retarded.  The lowest we scored last year was 20 vs. our rival, and the QB, RB, and OL for ASU is ALL stronger this year.
