I'm pretty sure StonerRat would have had u eh in 5th. For anyone to have WSU in the top five, now that's a head scratcher. Maybe he got them confused with UW.

I would like to have heard his explanation for his WSU pick.

These guys believe so much of the crap they spew, it's just regurgitation between them and nothing new. He probably picked WSU because the name of Leach is more recognizable to him.

Regarding Wazzu, his logic was as follows.

1. Add one part weak schedule
2. Add one part returning QB Connor Halliday
3. Add two parts Leach love
4. Winning!

Wow that is insane, I mean holy cow did he not watch their bowl game last year and see just how bad coaching they have?  How the hell does any sane person pick WAZZU over OSU, ASU,UA or UW.  Just wow what a fool

Re: ESPNU PAC12 Top 5

I don't agree with his pick obviously, but the top 4 are pretty "safe" so you had to think he would go for a surprise team.

Besdies if he was judging off of a bowl game performance than ASU wouldn't have made the cut either.

I am fine with the medias low expectations. The players are taking it as an insult. Read what Douglas had to say about it in Hallers article this past weekend. The players are ready to prove everyone wrong.

Maybe the unnamed analyst who blew 5 guys at PITT didn't want to see ASU in the top five, so he did Luginbill a "favor"......  noidea

had he picked Washington at #5 would there be a thread about this? No. So, he picked WSU and got message board posters across the Pac to talk about him.

Re: ESPNU PAC12 Top 5

That could be right, TT. Intentionally controversial.

I wouldn't necessarily expect ASU to be up there and conventional wisdom would have the Huskies at 5 vs. the Cougs. I do think the Cougs will be more dangerous this year and likely to win another game or two. The rats better watch out for them in Pullman. I don't think they will make that big of a jump, however, and catapult the Beavs. The Beavs will be a little lean depth-wise as usual, esp. later in the season, but I think they are being undervalued by a lot of the pundits.

P.S. Leach makes fun conversation, he's bright and witty. I'd love to have a few drinks with the guy, but I don't think he's one of the best HCs in conference.

Lungibill didn't know anything about 5 through 12. But he remembered the Wazzu flags at Gameday, and thought they must be good or something.

WSU at #5 is moronic, that is a given, but Stanford at #4 is questionable.  With that O-line, it is hard to believe they are only the 4th best team.

I love the fact that most everyone is overlooking ASU because of our losses on defense.  I mean, our offense is going to be near unstoppable, but nobody cares.  I don't mind this a bit.

Your offense near unstoppable? Lmfao!!! News flash Grice is gone he was a big part of your offense, See Stanford and Texas Tech but further more stay away from that red stuff you're drinking. all it'll take is a few stops and the other team wins.

We were a top 10 offense last year.  I'm sure the nine above us also lost a player to the draft.

Re: ESPNU PAC12 Top 5

As a WSU Cougar of course I take umbrage at all these comments about WSU not being deserving of 5th place in these experts view. I do however see how it can be seriously questioned.

One comment however on Strength of Schedule was a little off base particularly coming from ASU this season.

Your OOC opponents are a joke with New Mexico and Weber State on your schedule. Notre Dame is noteworthy but the other two are nothing but fodder for your team to beat up on.

New Mexico  has won on average less than 3 games per year over the past three years.

Weber State on the other hand has rallied for 8 wins over three seasons and were last in their conference.

According to the new NCAA method of ranking strength of schedule :

WSU ranks 36th

U of A  ranks 49th

ASU ranks  52nd.

Hey after you get out of the OOC stuff we all play a very tough schedule. As it stands today I certainly wouldn't put WSU this high unless it was as a surprise tieam, but WSU is not a horrible team.

I know you're half joking, but that formula above (schedule, QB, coaching) would put Oregon State up there before it would put WSU.

Says the WSU fan coming off last year's gauntlet of Southern Utah, Idaho and Auburn.  Last year ASU played Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Sac St.  Let's not try to make too many conclusions from this year's schedule.

You guys are an improving team and have better players than you did 2 years ago, but be honest, do you really think you are better than ASU?  The lopsided results of our head to head games is all the proof you need.

I'm not blaming WSU fans, I'd be stoked if some college football critic had us in the top 5 of our conference, we are pointing fingers at the so called expert.  You have to look at it from our POV, we won the south, we have all our skill position players coming back, and we somehow have slipped several spots down?
