11am Kickoffs

11am Kickoffs

How do you guys feel about this? I just hope they don't schedule one of these for ASU until at least November. 11am in September or even October is still hot. Overall I am not a big fan. 11am could be tough for families. I know in our household it seems like there is always something going on Saturday mornings/early afternoons. But as they say, this was for the fans. (Roll of the eyes)

Driving up from Tucson for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff will be pretty Hard Edge.

I would love it. Watching PAC games in Eastern time sucks.

I can't imagine they'd do it before late October.

Kids/grandkids play flag and Pop Warner football Saturday mornings, you're not going to miss that. Everything now is for money.

Where are they having 11 am kickoffs ?  That is way too early  . Is it mostly  East Coast and central time ?

Hate all day games. Morning games are a joke. As mentioned people have family obligations. If your driving from far away getting before 11 (let alone tailgate) is a challenge. We only have 4 sat home games. I'll be pissed if they make them 11 am games

Re: 11am Kickoffs

The deal is that the PAC had to create a new timeslot because last year we had as many 4 7pm kicks going at the same time!

Re: 11am Kickoffs

I love it as long as it isn't in Tempe or Tucson.

An 11 am kickoff works in pretty much all 10 other locations.

Later in the year, ASU and UofA can host their 11 am kick off games
Maybe on paper they are all better than us.  But, we get our chance to have our say. - M. Bradley

I personally think the UA game on the friday after thanksgiving makes a lot of sense to be earlier in the day.

We must have faith that the PAC doesn't roast the AZ teams with early starts in Sept and early Oct!

Re: 11am Kickoffs

Terrible idea, especially earlier in the year. The heat always takes the crowd out of the game, taking away a big part of the homefield advantage. We may as well be playing at a neutral site.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

Early kickoffs are easier to market/sell ads for the TV folks. Of course they want to force day games.

But early kickoff games are not in the best interest of ASU - - it makes going to the game less enjoyable for the fans. It also likely means less game day revenue for the University. ASU should have objected to this IMHO.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

This is just like the BYU scheduling issue. Just because BYU doesn't want to play on Sunday doesn't ban every other team in the conference from playing on sunday. You could still have 10 teams theoretically, or 11 even, play on sunday every single week if you wanted to. It's not an issue.

Likewise, the Pac-12 can institute an 11 am time slot without forcing ASU to play home games there because they have plenty of other options.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

I am pretty sure that there is a stipulation that the Pac-12 cannot schedule games earlier than 6:30pm for Arizona or asu due to the heat, and I believe this only applies to August/September and first half of October games. I could be wrong but I am not sure.

Only in November, and only once per year.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

Frankly, the less time in Tucson the better. A 11:00 start time is good for me. I almost got assaulted by a local hayseed getting out of my car showing the colors prior to the game last year. The bars are dives and then you are constantly hasseled by the local retards until game time. At least they will be less drunk and rowdy by mid afternoon. I'm taking the Woody Hayes approach in the future - don't stay over night, never spend a dime there, and get out fast before they trash my car.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

This is to curb the late night starts 8/8:30 pm kick offs in the mountain time zone.

Utah played most of their home games at night, which was a wreck for their fans.

Oregon gets one of the early season 11am slots, but look for Utah and Colorado to host this spot late in the season when the weather gets chilly and a noon start is ok.

Start at 11 PM  devil

This does suck though.  Now we'll have all the youth football dads absent as well as the 3,4,& 5 o'clock complainers too.  They don't even start that early on the East coast so this is just lame all around.

Re: 11am Kickoffs

The B1G routinely starts games noon eastern which would be 10 or 11 for them.

Just checking the schedule it looks like that early time slot will be

Week
1: ??
2: Sac St @ Cal
3: Wyoming @ Oregon

no times scheduled yet for week 4 and beyond. So, early signs are that they are being smart with who plays in these slots.

FWIW, I think it would be cool if some of our road games were in this 11 am slot. It's rough waiting all day :)
