CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
Not a bad spot for us, but the problem is we play 6 teams ranked ahead of us Furd, UW, USC, UCLA, Wiscy and ND. Also UA at (overrated??) 30, and dangerous OSU at #32. Jeez 8 teams in the top 32! 8 games that should be close to 50-50, at best!
All in all it should temper our enthusiasm a bit, the main takeaway from this "way to early look" is that we have a brutal schedule.

Breaking in a new QB is always a tough transition, so I think that uofeh is ranked to high.

Re: CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
I think that sounds about right for us but how do they figure au is that high? It'll be interesting to see what they can do without Matt Scott who took a lot of the focus off of Carey. Yes don't tell me about the Colorado game....Colorado's pathetic. Without Scott I seriously doubt au beats OkState and $UC and then they're looking at a 5-7 season. Of course this year they do have an easier schedule and I see them with a 6-7 win season...but I don't think that should qualify them for #30.

Honestly, I don't care about preseason rankings this year with that block of schools we play to start the season. We'll know where we stand on week 6.

RE: CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
I think many people are expecting that Freshman QB au has coming in (Anu something??) to be able to be able to step right in since he is the type of QB RichRod loves. I don't know anything about the guy so I don't know how realistic that is.

RR won't have any problems at QB next year.
Problem is defense.
I think Arizona is ranked a little high though.

I expect UofA to have another year of more of the same. Great offense, bad defense.
I expect ASU to take a step forward. Championship defense, offense that good enough.

So Scroggins wont be your starter then? Because if he is your starter th E n you have lots of problems at QB. He had an unstellar JC season and for gods sake he lost out to Wittick when he was at USC. Have you seen Wittick play? Scroggins couldnt beat that guy! Whoa.

I'm not concerned. RR can coach and develop players better than any coach that I'm aware of. Or we can go with Anu. Bottom line: we'll be fine. I'd be more concerned with a potential second year slump with Kelly. spayNnueterallCATS wrote: So Scroggins wont be your starter then? Trust ZonaCat everyone. Just trust him because he says they'll be fine. He's essentially on RR's staff. He's right, don't worry, everything will be fine because he just feels that way.

Yes, that True Freshman QB is going to arrive in the Summer and just pick things right up. In fact, he'll be better than Matt Scott, who as it turns out (we know because the Rat fans said so) was not really very good. And yes, it just makes sense that it's more likely that our returning starter will struggle more than the Freshman will. Sure. zonacat00 wrote: I'm not concerned. Not sure why UW continues to get the benefit of the doubt. Not a very good team.

RE: CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
I think UW is going to improve quite a bit. Losing Polk and some key O-lineman was a big problem/adjustment area for them in 2012. They've definitely been bringing in some solid recruiting classes and I think they'll be nipping at Stanford & Oregon's heels in 2013, if not contending.

Re: CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
Nobody said he would be better than Matt Scott, but yeah we think a True Freshman can come in and start right away. He's been a starter since his Freshman year in high school and ran the same offense that we run. He also has Kadeem and WR's that will make whoever is at QB's job a hell of a lot easier, but offense won't be the problem. Were gonna put up points. The defense will make or break us next season. Re: CFN 2013 First Look Rankings--ASU #29 and UA #30
ASU's top options didn't include a true freshman who won't be on campus until fall (Solomkn) and a JC transfer who completed less than 50% of his passes (Scroggins). All 3 ASU QB's already had a year or more at ASU before Graham's arrival, and were able to learn the new offense in Spring. It's not an apples to apples situation. --------------------------------------------- --- ZonaFide wrote: DenverDevil wrote: Breaking in a new QB is always a tough transition, so I think that uofeh is ranked to high. The difference is though that we had three promising QBs who had all been in the system or seen playing time for at least a year. For us it was which one would seperate themselves as opposed to whether any of them would do anything. Plus we weren't ranked that high to begin with.

The reason were ranked pretty high in the preseason is returning Carey and Receivers. Were not going to be that high once the real polls come out, but nonetheless Scroggins, Denker, and Solomon are all promising. I doubt Solomon starts, but he is defiantly a promising QB prospect.
