Yeah, still don't know what to think about that. Either a bad troll by Deadspin or an even worse one by Te'o. Either way makes me sick.

This is shocking, although a comment at the bottom brought some levity:

"More like Nosuch Dame, amirite???"

Wow, I have to think it is credible considering all of the research done. I hope this investigation is released for all if the public. Innocent until proven guilty. But this new info is sure hard to disprove. It would be a very sad day if indeed the whole story was fake. I guess after Lance i thought sports couldn't get worse in a sense of character, this would definitely trounce Lance's blunders.

WOW. This is AMAZING (and absolutely despicable). How the hell did it go on for so long without anyone actually checking and seeing if the fake girl and her fake family members actually exist? Oh social media, you are too funny.

Um, so he had a girlfriend for a year that he never actually met in person? Hahaha, oh the lies are too funny.

Never met her but she came to visit his family multiple times in Hawaii. The family is quoted talking about them getting married. I'd rather confess to duping to nation about a made up girlfriend than confess to talking marriage about a girl I'd never met. Manti teo is a clown either way.

And what about Teo saying or not refuting that he met her after the Stanford game, that he was on the phone with her all night before the Michigan game, that he sent white flowers to her funeral, etc.? Teo certainly knew of, and was part of, the deception.

If he and Notre Dame claimed they found out about it in late December, for his sake I hope he did not mention her during the BCS media events. He will lose a fortune! His pre draft interviews just got interesting for sure. Now Oprah is going to have to do another interview! lol

Yeah, this is downright weird.  Spin it however you want, and it is still whacked.  Either he knew, and was blatantly lying to everyone, or he didn't know, and is the least sharp tool in the state, let alone shed.

It's pretty hard to believe, but not impossible.  To be honest, the courtship process is a lot different now a days.  With online dating, text hookups, etc.. I can easily see how a younger man (possibly female awkward) like Teo, could fall for something like this, even "fall in love."  As ludicrous as it sounds, it is possible.  I even know grown men who have fallen love with virtual girlfriends in online video games, and it's fairly common in South Korea to meet a significant other online. Of course your online GF may turn out to be a 45 year old dude and you may regret that virtual XXOO.

Again not saying I totally buying ND's press release if true, but I do think it's completely possible, from what I have seen.  Furthermore, I think we need to put away the assumption that any football star is going to be a chick magnet, he very well be totally socially awkward in that sense, would not be the first man who has no clue about women.

Even if he were fooled by someone (and he wasn't), he still told a huge number of lies to people, like how they met, his phone calls with her, etc etc. I mean, his girlfriend supposedly died and he never even went to her grave or met her family?! He wasn't fooled.

Well in the national championship game, he was tackling virtual running backs, not real ones.

That's true.  Maybe he's a fabrication too?  I didn't see him make a tackle all night.

WTF is wrong with our society and kids?  Are those morons so ignorant to believe the truth would never surface?  This is perplexing just on its premise.

Another reason why being a father to daughters is so difficult.  Finding a balance between explaining that most men are demented punks and believing there are some good men out there has never before been so difficult.

Arizona State Football:  Ranked #20 in all-time winning percentage.  I believe that makes us top 25.
