David Williams RB - announcement today
Elite PA RB David Williams, last I heard, is going to announce his school in today's semper fidelis all-star game out in California. Scout has ASU among the finalists with U of South Carolina in the lead (according to public info on his player profile). ESPN states that he has an official visit scheduled to South Carolina on Jan 18, which is curious if true. Seems odd that he would pledge any school other than South Carolina if he does indeed have that visit scheduled. Any way, something to watch for today...

Interesting article in the Philadelphia Inquirer putting it down to ASU or South Carolina: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/185498402.html

RE: David Williams RB - announcement today
Read on a So. Carolina board he has said he will only make that visit if he chooses the Gamecocks. I think they are favored for his services. Same page cited an insider article that said he had a close relationship with the recruiter and was speaking to Spurrier every couple of weeks. Don't know anything about his recruitment by the CTG staff. Still great that ASU is still mentioned. I think Miami and Penn State were in the running so it is good company.

Hope he comes here! After Grice, I feel like it's a toss-up. Make an impression David!

It'd be nice if we could somehow redshirt this kid and then have him come in as a freshman to possibly back up Foster as a junior. Still if he is an elite back I doubt we would redshirt him and obviously Graham isn't afraid to use three or more backs in a game.

I haven't felt this good about the RB situation in a while. Grice = Thunder. Foster = Lightning. David.................. = Get over to ASU!

He would be a tremendous get--but I would be shocked if we nabbed him.

I wouldn't read too much into Lattimore leaving. South Carolina's got a pretty deep stable of backs. A quick look at their recent recruiting classes shows 1 committed for this year, 2 signed last year and 2 in 2011. Two of those guys are 4*.

The feature back at Scar--whoever he is, is destined to take a lot of hits, pain and punishment. Here at ASU, he'll probably do a lot of his running in space.
I hope the kid realizes that!

RE: David Williams RB - announcement today
Doug haller made a good point in his chat yesterday about us having just lost out RB coach. Novell was lead recruiter but since its the dead period and there uncertainty around his position it doesn't seem like we are poised for the upset over scar here. Not saying it won't happen and we are certainly in the running but scar seems like the heavy favorite. Of we don't get him I hope there isn't a melt down on this board.

There shouldn't be a meltdown since he's from Pennsylvania. Now if he was an AZ kid, there'd be a meltdown for sure!

Best friends with Jaelen Strong. One of the interviews with Strong after he committed asked him if he was in Williams' ear about ASU, and he said, "Yes, every day, in fact, he's right here with me now." Not too much later after that, Williams said he was ready to announce. Take that for what it is worth.

He isn't running over anyone. I would say Grice is Lightening and Foster is Lightning Jr. Foster is too small right now to be a every down running back.

RE: David Williams RB - announcement today
Steve Spurrier said this today on the Dan Patrick show, I retweeted it and CCd David Williams, who then retweeted it. "Some people really love grinding, watching tape. Some people love football year round. I am not one of those guys. I like grinding from August to the end of that bowl game the other day. Now, it's golf season and travel around, hit the beach a little bit, go up to the Preakness. There are other things in life besides grinding football." coachingsearch.com/component/c...olf-season.html

Re: David Williams RB - announcement today
Grice and Foster are solid and both Lewis and Middlebrooks are good #3 backs so its not a position of need but it never hurts to load up.

RE: David Williams RB - announcement today
SpayN - This is why they're really only after one RB. After next year Grice will be gone, the year after that Deantre Lewis will be. That leaves us with only two upperclassman RBs and one may be ready to go pro after his Junior year. Plus, I also don't see DJ as a full-time RB. He was one of our best receivers and would expect that to continue, even if it's out of the backfield.
Nick Brown is unlikely to play RB.

RE: David Williams RB - announcement today
except that PA is way, way deeper in HS talent. Kush and other coaches used to get some real good kids from there. It would be great if TG could get a pipeline from there going.
