No Stanford???

No Stanford???

Watching the Rose Parade on NBC... Just a quick flash of the Stanford float, then it's off to commercial with no mention of them or the PAC 12. Then nothing after the break.

Is this still because of what the Stanford Band did at ND years ago?? Either that, or they were marching naked.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin got lots of air time.

was about to say...the Rose Parade is on quite a few channels simultaneously. My guess is if you were watching the ABC feed they would have shown the team floats because ABC is airing the game.

Wife and In Laws prefer the HGTV feed...it airs commercial free.

NBC got hammered for not showing the UW band on twitter that they showed them later in the broadcast.Enjoy HGTV coverage for it being commercial free and the describing of the floats.

Mocked the pope and the drum major was dressed as a Nun. I think there was joke alluding to molestation as well.

Stanford's band has been a joke since 'the play' made them a national punchline.

The hell... For being one of the top academic institutions in the world...

Popped by the Furd board. Apparently they've gotten pretty uppity since Harbaugh made them a power. Seems none of the other bowls matter except Oregon and Stanford's because all eyes are on them. True to an extent, but I hope we pound them next year.

Momentary "Go Pac-12" for them the next 15 minutes.

^all 15 of them got real uppity?

They couldn't sell out a conference title game... That speaks volumes about their fanbase, or its non-existence.

Furd is the best program in the PAC

Not exactly challenging this thought, but curious-do you think they're above Oregon as a program right now?

I was thinking Oregon, but I'd be interested in hearing and weighing the reasoning behind Stanford.

Re: No Stanford???

Stanford has become one of the select few programs that can legitimately recruit in every region in the country. In that respect they are kind of like USC, Ohio State, Bama and ND. There is not a parent in the nation that would not let David Shaw in the front door to speak to their kid. Thats why the furd is good for the Pac-12, they can pull away players from outside our backyard leaving the rest of the PAC to hoard the best west coast kids.

RE: No Stanford???

Stanford has the complete package to sell to a recruit and his parents. Come here and play in BCS bowls and get a nationally respected degree that can serve you well after football.

In that context I do agree. I probably was looking it at in strictly an on field football sorta way, but I see your thinking.

RE: No Stanford???

they beat the Ducks this year, knocked them out of the PAC and NC champ games

3 BCS bowls in a row, Rose Bowl win, 2 Heisman runners up in a row, 2x PAC coach of the year. Things are good on the farm

RE: No Stanford???

True, but...

Stanford has less than 7k undergraduates but sold 40k tickets to the Rose Bowl. ASU has over 70k undergraduates and sold 4k to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.

Stanford's fans/alumni have donated enough money to endow every athletic scholarship, head coach, and many assistants. ASU had to launch a campaign and solicit hundreds, if not thousands, of alumni to raise $150k for Camp T.

One Stanford fan/alumni paid to renovate Stanford Stadium for $90 million. ASU hasn't paid off the Dickey Dome yet.

Speaks volumes of both fan bases. Don't you think?

^This is the uppity that was mentioned earlier.

You couldn't sell out a conference title game in your stadium. That fact remains.

Your program is in a better spot than ours right now, but rest assured if we make the Roses we'll sell more than 40k tickets.

RE: No Stanford???

Stanford sold its allotment of 31,000 seats to the Rose Bowl and were still outnumbered by Wisconsin fans (who traveled further to watch their 5-loss team play in its 3rd straight Rose Bowl). That's the same number of tickets Stanford was able to sell for the Pac-12 Championship game at their home stadium.

The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl drew a bigger crowd (34k) than the Pac-12 Championship game at Stanford Stadium.  ASU's smallest home crowd was 48,659 for NAU; an FCS opponent in the August heat. It was also the opener for a team the media selected to finish 11th in the Pac-12.

Speaks volumes about the respective fanbases, right?

Many ticket owners at virtually every school are non-alumni. Stanford doesn't seem to be drawing that crowd in, despite their success on the field. Notre Dame has an undergraduate enrollment around 8,000 (similar to Stanford's). Doesn't seem to impact their attendance.
