Back to the Bronx
Would of been interesting if Coke didn't choke
Joe should of definitely pinch ran for Matsui with Pena who could of stole the bag leaving out the possibility for a DP from Jeter who hits a ton of them.
Gardner in the lineup is almost an automatic out since he hasn't seen live hitting in a month.
Joe should of definitely gave him a spot start when Swish was struggling and some pinch AB's late to keep him sharp.(just in case they needed his bat like now)
God forbid if Burnett pitched 2 solid games in a row.
What's sad is his first win goes out the window after basically trading it right back by almost not giving his team a chance to win allowing 6ER in 2IP.
Knowing AJ struggles on the road everything pointed to starting Gaudin tonight.

Re: Back to the Bronx
The only thing I didn't like was that Girardi didn't pinch run Pena for Matsui. We'll be fine, you'll know the line that is coming from Pedro in his post game press conference. He won't be able to pitch good on regular rest because he's used to two weeks between his starts. Jeter Damon Tex Arod Matsui Posada Swisher Cano Gardner (made that great defensive catch) And for Pettite he's a vet, he'll keep us close even if he's not all there. I hope. Burnett threw to many fastballs dead center mostly because he seemed to be getting squeezed.

I actually dozed off and missed the first 3-4 innings why what do you mean ?
I hope your not saying they weren't giving him the corners or anything close are you ?
Because if that's the case the League was definitely pushing for a game #6 to increase revenue because from what I saw Philly pitchers were getting an extremely wide K-zone particularly low and away.
That first pitch to Tex in the 9th was a ball without a doubt
If that pitch is called a strike the whole AB is different and there is a great chance A-Rod comes to the plate with the winning run.
Posada cries about everything close and I think they are sick of his $hit giving him nothing even remotely borderline.
If Joe see's anything like this in game #6 he's gotta bring it to the camera's attention or have Pena or someone do it.

Re: Back to the Bronx
I said all along not to pitch Burnett in game 5. On the road, three days rest, and against Lee, it was a clear mistake. That said, the one thing you generally know that you'll get out of Pettitte that you don't get from Burnett is that Andy will typically figure out a way to battle, even if his stuff is not great. If AJ was going to throw a dud anyway, and he very easily could have done the same thing on full rest, then I guess I'm glad that the Yanks didn't throw away game 5 with gaudin and then have AJ stink up the place in game 6. I think the Yanks still hold the edge, and it'd be nice to win it in the new Stadium, but now my stress level stays up for the next couple of days.

Re: Back to the Bronx
If the Yankees lose, it will be the strategy of only using three starters. The Yanks are lucky that Lidge sucks because if that Game 4 stays tied, Mariano stayis in the pen and Coke chokes it up in the ninth.

Re: Back to the Bronx
I hate to speculate at this point, and I don't want to curse anything, but IF the Yanks end it tomorrow, then I imagine that much will depend upon what happens in that game. If Mo gets the save, especially if it is a 6 out save, he's got a good chance. ARod has not had a lot of hits, but he's had some huge ones. If he were to get a big hit, it might be him. Damon may have singlehandedly saved the WS with his game 4.

Re: Back to the Bronx
yea i did. im pretty sure i picked the patriots to beat the giants in 07 by over 2 tds. ill never be confused with nostradumas. but i really do got this feeling that new york is gona choke. tex is looking like mr july out there and im wating for arod to go back to his postseason futility mos old and due for a let down so isnt pettite. i mean how many times can these guys be unhuman and not make mistakes in crucial moments. i mean if mo is gonna keep spittin on the ball he may never get hit, but i dont know. i know howard is gona snap out of it and go off. plus pedro is a diva but he is a crafty game 6 is gona be tuff but if the phillys win that game 7 shifts all the pressure to new york and i think the phillys win it. ----YeahYaAre wrote: ---------------
southsidefria rfan wrote: cc.....but phillys are going to win this so the mvp will be utley werth or lee----RichardCoren wrote: ---------------Yankess end it in 6. Re: Back to the Bronx
Utley has been amazing but if the Yanks win in 6 I don't know how you give it to him. At least if it got to 7 you can say he brought the Phils all the way back, but 6 only amounts to 2 wins.

I say that because the Yanks, at this point, have no one that stands out for the award. Anyway, I'll worry about the MVP later.

Are you guys really worried??? You've got the best team, and you're got Pedro in Yankee Stadium... seriously, it's over.

Re: Back to the Bronx
I would be much more worried if the Phils had at least one stud starter going in Game 6 or 7. As it is now I see the Yankees being able to put up a good amount of runs, just a matter of holding Phils down. X factor is three days rest for Pettitte and CC.

Re: Back to the Bronx
Agree 100% with Greg had Gaudin gone out and lost and then Burnett spit the bit in Game 6 what would we all be saying? Truth is Gaudin was always be held back for some use that never came and has only pitched 1 inning in post-season ansd that in the 10-1 win over LAA. So there was no way he was starting Game 5...The decision to go with 3 starters occurred when Joba never regained any sense of anything as they rebuilt his innings in September. At worse, he would be a spot starter...

Re: Back to the Bronx
Cat, from the beginning of the game it seemed to me that this series was going to Game 6. I think Tim Donaughy was right. The revenue that everyone would make to have the series go back to New York seemed to good. In the first few innings Burnett was getting pinched and if you noticed Fox NEVER put up the K zone because they were strikes on the corner. As you know Burnett needs to hit the corners with the first pitch fastball to get ahead and throw the breaking ball for a K. Also with the bunt attempt that hit Victorino, FOX didn't zoom in and show that it probably hit the ball along with his fingers, whether or not he was bunting they didn't show either. Overall it just seemed to me that it was going to be extra hard for the Yankees to win that game. Fox has all the technology to show the K zone after every close pitch like they usually do, and the technology to zoom in and pause on every close play like they did at plays at first. Another thing there was a neighborhood play when Utley was covering second, where he clearly didn't touch the bag, I understand the neighborhood play but it was called earlier in the playoffs. As you could see the frustration by Posada in his 7th or 8th inning at bat. CatFriar wrote:"Burnett threw to many fastballs dead center mostly because he seemed to be getting squeezed.'

Re: Back to the Bronx
I'd love to see AROD drive in a couple runs in Game 6 and get MVP. He hasn't necessarily put up the numbers but all of his production has been clutch. It would shutup everyone, and AROD could hit 45 hrs and 130 RBI's with that confidence next year. RichardCoren wrote:Yankess end it in 6. Who gets series MVP?
