RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
To Syracuse... Was this expected Richard or Steve? I don't think it's too bad because the Friars are loaded at guard already. I do hope it does not continue however (RI kids leaving) with the local kids Keno really wants.
Syracuse has one of the top recruiting classes in the country in 2010, and now they are off and running in 2011 with their first commitment from Michael Carter-Williams of Hamilton (R.I.) St. Andrews.
Syracuse has been strong with Carter-Williams since the beginning of his recruitment, and a couple visits to the campus convinced him it was the right place for him.
"I feel most comfortable at Syracuse," said Carter-Williams, 6-foot-4, 175-pounds. "I love the facilities and the coaches."
Carter-Williams, who had offers from over ten other schools, also visited Providence, Virginia and Villanova during his recruitment.
A combo guard with length, Carter-Williams also feels that the Syracuse style of play fits him well.
"I'm a long kid, so in the zone that will help," he said. "I'll be able to take up space. I also like to get out and run the court. I'll probably play the one for them."
As a sophomore, Carter-Williams averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game.

Wow the St Andrews to Cuse pipeline continues
You gotta wonder if Hart and others in his position get 10-15K kickbacks for delivering 4-5 star kids that help get these coaches million dollar extensions.
I'm guessing him and Ledo are good pals
Lackey in Pinstripes for 2010(remember where you heard it first)

Expected? In a way, yes... Mike Hart has never done PC any favors, certainly considering the fact that PC has consistently provided tickets for his entire team to any and all games, and has given him and his players access to a Big East program that they would not have otherwise. Instead, he bows at the feet of guys like Boeheim and Calhoun. PC is involved with a number of other talented 2011 point guards like Sjhabazz Napier and Naadir Tharpe anyway, and there are many others.

Yeah, I agree Rich. It's time to turn up the screws on Coach Hart. Get on board or get out.

Not getting #3 shouldn't bother us if we are still in play for #1 and #2?

What a shock! A St. Andrews kid playing for Hart and not coming to Providence? Impossible! Preposterous! Unheard of! Yeah, right! In any event, of the 3 top New England guards from 2011 that have been associated with the Friars , I'm glad it's him rather than the other 2. Throw in Nawhorn, Mack, and Taylor who hopefully will climb the rankings between now and next year and we still are involved with some good talent for a 2011 point guard. Let's get it done soon!

RE: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
Does anyone think it will be tough to get a commitment from a 2011 PG, since Council and Lacy will be juniors at that time (assuming neither one transfers). Playing time could be a concern. Players don't like to wait their turn these days. Or do Napier and Tharpe (if we are fortunate enough to get either one) have enough talent where they will come right in and play regardless?

Re: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
Carter-Williams is a Boston kid, not a RI kid who grew up with dreams of playing for the Friars. For a kid like that, the lure of the "big-time" at a BCS school is tough for PC to beat. PC did recruit him, but Syracuse was on him very hard from the beginning of this summer when both he and Ledo blew up. Demetrius Nichols was a similar story - Boston kid at St. Andrew's. Went to Syracuse, loved it, and ended up in the NBA. Tough story line to beat if that is what Syracuse is selling. And Carter-Williams could be the same type of player - a really good, 4-year player who gets stronger and turns into an All League level guy. Mike Hart is not pushing kids one way or another. He's trying to fnd the best situation for them that they are comfortable with. Hard to argue with this if you look at it objectively. Syracuse did a better job of recruiting him - they were all over him this summer when PC was just starting to get involved.

It's time for PC to cut these ties with Hart and St Andrew's.

On top of that statement, depending ont he recruitment the high school coach can have very little influence where the kid goes.

Re: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
There is a certain frustration with recruiting St. Andrew's kids... that's all I'll say. We have posters who claim that Mike Hart is open to sending his kids anywhere, and others who swear that he won't send his top kids to PC... who knows? Otherwise, what's a false statement? That Mike has never done PC any favors in regards to recruiting? That PC has provided Hart & St. Andrew's with tickets to numerous games? That PC provides Hart & St. Andrew's with access to a Big East program that they otherwise wouldn't have? What exactly is false? And by the way, I would never advocate cutting ties with St. Andrew's. There is too much talent there and you never know whether this will turn around.

Nichols has barely scratched the surface of the NBA. He's been pro for 2 years and appeared in a grand total of ... 18 games and averaged 3.3 minutes per appearance. He's a D-Leaguer.
Usually its 2 or 3 years in the D-League then they're either brought up to the NBA or they go play somewhere else.
Nichols was a good college player. And don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for the kid because I did like him at 'Cuse, but he doesn't have the all-around talent to compete at the top level. He doesn't play shut down defense and he mostly acts as a shooter. I remember coming out of school that a lot of people were knocking his dribbling / ball handling abilities. (Similar to JJ Reddick)

Re: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
I broke this last night on the Premium board, and to the Syracuse board. He was going to commit to Syracuse it was just a matter of time. Napier and Tharpe may be better right now, but Carter-Williams definately has potential as a big, long PG. Also that is why Cuse fans aren't exactly thrilled they see him as a three star recruit right now and they were after #2 PG Tony Wroten but he tore something playing football. Now for St. Andrew's/PC it's all about Ricky...

Re: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
Richard I will say you do a pretty good job on this site and I enjoy it. The discussion is pretty good and knowledge is at a good level. "Instead, he bows at the feet of guys like Boeheim and Calhoun." I have a big problem with that statement. First and most important it is not true. Second Syracuse did a great deal of stuff for Demetrius, fact. PC got Kale when he was blwoing up. Yes he did not turn into a real impact guy but you know he was having a great summer and really made the choice before others could get involved. Every recruit is different. Carter Williams grew up outside of Boston and ended up at St. Andrews because of a family friend. Did not grow up with any allegiance toward PC. Syracuse did the best job recruiting him, is Hart suppose to step in and tell him to go to Prov? Did Hart even have much say? PC provides the things they do to Hart because that is what they are supposed to do. I think if they didn't think they would get somethign out of that relationship they would cut ties. Just because he didn't help this kid, doesn't mean he is not helping with other kids on other prep teams. he has some influence.

Re: RI'er Michael Carter-Williams Commits!!
So CoachMel What do you think of Ricky's possibilities then? And in today's recruiting game, a coach can definately push a kid towards a school. We may see that in a week or so.
