What schools will be looking for new Head Coaches...... (1 vote)
following this season? Whether it be due to retirement, lack of performance or other issues; what schools will be looking? I realize that it may put some people off to talk about this, but at he end of the day its a reality and just because someone talks about it, doesnt make it gospel. Im of the opinion that if a man is working his hardest and doing stuff right( regardless of his record),he will keep his job. I have heard a few retirement rumors.

Are you talking about Silver or ENMU. Silver has 7 wins, and isn't ENMU's AD the former Head Volleyball coach.

If Im Eastern, I beg a guy like Aaron Ocampo to be head coach. He has great ties and contacts in the state to recruit and is a bright young star as a coach in this state. Im not sure if he would even be interested but he knows his football, is young and has the contacts to really do something. He is outgoing and isnt afraid to go out there and promote......which seperates him from others. There are at least 10-15 D-II level players in this state every year. You get those guys to come every year and pay for their room and board( while lottery pays for school) and I think you find success. Imagine signing QB: Tyler Baker, Rio Rancho RB: Matt Sandoval, Volcano Vista WR: Taylor Weary, Alamo WR: Jake Espinoza, Aztec TE: Omar Luna, Bernalillo OL: Chris Clees, Goddard OL: Jacob Avalos, Las Cruces OL: Dilan Sednstryker, La Cueva DL: Riche Chaves, Clovis DL: John Cachora, Onate LB: Seth McVey, Sandia DB: Jay Serda, Manzano DB: Jake Garcia, Pius As for High Schools: Los Lunas- really have no direction and dont have great talent but still arent as good as they should be. Im not saying they should win state or even district but they should be much more competitive. Pius- this program is living off success from years ago. They havent been good for 6+ years and seem to get worse and worse every year. I hear parents are calling for heads. West Mesa- Coach P is a good coach but that place could be wearing on him. He just doesnt have much help and is the schools AD too. I hope he stays as head coach, but wow, what a hill to climb still( even though he has done everything right)

If Eastern did look in a different direction, which Im not even sure they are considering. What about Coach Kelly Lee. He is a ENMU grad( I think) and has proven to be a succesful OC at the college level. Just because parents are upset doesnt mean anything. 99.9% of the time, there are at least a few parents unhappy with something........all the time. Its the nature of the beast.

But I can tell you this ENMU is going to struggle playing in the Lone Star Conference, focusing their recruiting on NM kids. If you were around when Carthel was at ENMU his team was predominatly Houston, San Antonio, DFW, West Texas Kids, with a couple of Mississippi JUCO kids, and a few tougher than nails Clovis boys. O' Meara has proven he can recruit that type of athlete to Roswell (NMMI) and Safford, Az. plus his dad was able to recruit kids to Silver City and Yuma, Az.

ENMU will likely win the the North Division of the Lone Star Conference next season. ENMU hasn't won a LSC South game in three years but they haven't lost a LSC North Crossover game either. They will be in the hunt to win the LSC North every year.

Re: What schools will be looking for new Head Coaches...... (1 vote)
Coach Lee coached at ENMU during our run of 7 straight winning seaons and is well respected around ENMU. I think he played for the new AD at Adams State before finishing at WNMU. I heard he was very close to getting the WNMU head job a few years back. Jeff Lynn also coached at ENMU before going to NMMI. They are having a very good season at NMMI this year and may get a bowl game. Both Lee and Lynn are great recruiters. Jeff Lynn recruited NM for the Hounds and when he left Kelly Lee came in and took over NM. We signed some great NM kids during those years. ENMU has been far more competitive this year and should do very well next year in the North Division.

I would expect him to stay in state though, either at UNM or NMSU. And this is coming from an Artesia guy. Part of the problem with Pius is declining enrollment. They are losing students every year. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them drop to AAA in a few years.

I don't see Roswell losing Arreola, The Principal is behind the rebuilding effort. You never know though as someone from above may push for change. Lots of problems at school with gangs and such

I really dont see Roswell going another way. They have put together quite the staff and will turn things around. Of course, I never thought in my wildest dreams they would get rid of Coach Chambers.....so who knows.

Los Lunas made a huge mistake a few years ago when they cut their Athletic P.E. right before the season causing Bobby Compos to resign. He had them playing well and was building a good program.

Re: What schools will be looking for new Head Coaches...... (2 votes)
Not having an athletic period certainly makes it tougher to compete with the schools who do. I remember coach Campos had Los Lunas playing some really good football and they were giving big name schools scares left and right. I saw on the NMAA website that the LA job doesnt include a teaching position or any staff position. To me that says they really arent looking and are gonna stay with someone already there. However, I have been wrong before. Los Lunas could potentially attract some real solid candidates: 1) They are moving down to 4A and that helps. 2) They do have some good athletes there every year( tough kids too) 3) If Im not mistaken, they pay something like 12K or 13K for the coaching stipend My biggest problem with most schools in this state and how they handle the coaching situations is timing. If you know your gonna go in a different direction, you owe it to the coaches( old and new) and the players to move right after football season and then get a guy in place by Jan or Feb.( at least try to anyways)
