Re: Legalize Marijuana

In all seriousness, I think we should re-legalize marijuana.  And no, I don't smoke.  Tax it, decriminalize it and set free those jailed for pot.

I do think that MS will be one of the last states to legalize it.  Attorneys make too much money defending marijuana related offenses.

Don't we still have "dry" counties? disbelief

That's probably a pretty good indication as to how marijuana legalization will turn out.

Good point coastsooner.  When a person has to drive 30 miles and pass 25 "beer" stores to drive to the next county just to get a bottle of wine.....that's a bit silly.

And some counties won't even allow the sale of beer.  Like it's stopping people from drinking..

What speaks volumes about this state is the amount of casinos we have, yet we still have many dry areas in the state.

I've seen lots of things lead to much worse drugs than Marijuana. I tell you what I've never seen; an angry person on marijuana. I see a lot of angry drunks though.

In Mississippi? Years... and years... and years... and years... and years... and years...

I've been on the fence with this issue, but I've been leaning toward legalization for the last several months. I'm anxious to see the inevitable court battle between what's on the federal books and what's on a couple of state books.

RE: Legalize Marijuana

I hope soon, especially for medicinal purposes. I don't see it happening anytime soon though. Too much misinformation and narrow mindedness in Mississippi for it to become legal. I support 100% legalization for medicinal, industrial, and recreational use.

Everyone dies. Are you saying his death can be directly attributed to marijuana?

If you won't accept the FACT that weed is a gateway drug and has plenty of health side effects, then its no need in me posting anything else.

Like I said smoke up SHEEP!! IGNORE THE TRUTH!!

Allowing weed out into the open like alcohol is just stupid!!

Smoking marijuana is less harmful than smoking tobacco. There's nothing wrong with smoking some marijuana just as there is nothing wrong with drinking some alcohol.

Its the new prohibition and its not working. The smartest thing to do is legalize it and tax it.

I agree its not working! If parents don't work to keep their kids drug free how can anybody else.

So lets just piss on all the laws that are not as effective as they could be and have at it!!

Please tell me what is so dangerous to other people about Marijuana? I've never had one person on Marijuana tried to hurt me. They are quite jovial and enjoy snacks. I have quite a few friends that use marijuana and continue to make above a 3.5 in college.

"Jovial" just caused me to crack up.

Am I high on gateway drugs?

Aside from munchies the only major effect of weed usage is to provide the lazy an additional outlet to be lazier.

If there are tangible long-term health issues caused by marijuana, there is still no reason for the supposed "small-government" conservatives that habituate the American south to be advocating its illegality. I'm an adult and I am capable of consuming it without bringing harm to myself or others. I shouldn't be prevented from doing so because people who don't understand the drug are afraid of it. Tobacco and alcohol are far greater threats to public health/safety. Coke (the beverage) consumption and obesity is a greater threat to public health.

I personally have no desire to live in something like the NYC dystopia that attacks these issues with silliness, which truth be told isn't that far off in mindset from the blue law mentality down here.

Laws are to made to protect people's rights from being violated by others. Not to protect people from themselves. We should have the freedom to do whatever we choose to our own bodies as long as it only affect us. Weed is harmless... Not one single person has ever died from weed. The same cannot be said for tobacco.

RE: Legalize Marijuana

Actually studies are mixed on that. I've read that marijuana causes anywhere from 4-7 times as much tar to be retained by the lungs.

RE: Legalize Marijuana

You are correct, it does have more tar. I misread the info I had. However, there have been no cases of lung cancer from weed. Its more more beneficial than using alcohol or tobacco, as far as health and side effects are concerned.
