CHA over OFA 2-1. Hard fought game by both teams. Sloppy field conditions and tied 1-1 until about 5 minutes remaining.

Congrats to CHA on advancing and also to OFA on a great season. Didn't realize this is only their second season playing soccer!

Lamar beats Laurel 3 to 0 and will advance to the Championship game to play Central Hinds.  I assume the usual muddy field at Central Hinds will be the venue.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

Afraid any outdoor venue this weekend will be a muddy one. I heard some unofficial talk of postponing until possibly Monday (90+% chance of rain on Saturday) or possibly playing on MCs turf to avoid the mud. That was strictly hearsay after the game - I will update here as soon as I hear something official.

CHA vs Lamar rescheduled for Monday, 2/20/12, at 1:00 at Central Hinds. Still probably going to be adverse field conditions - maybe the Div II game could be played prior to the Div I game on turf - only solution I can think to fight the mud.

I here that was brought up at the coaches meeting this year.  Playing at a neutral site and playing the games back to back would draw some pretty good fan base.  I know I would stay to see both games.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

Division 1 has been pretty much Prep vs. JA for quite a few years now so they are ok with just rotating it back and forth on each others fields. They are so close together there is no point of finding a neutral site. Plus JA has a turf field anyways.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

You are right about Division I.  Division II game is another story.  Central Hinds will host this year which is an advantage to them.  They split with Lamar 2-1 and 0-1 during the season.  I think the advantage swung to them because of only a goal or two differential against common division opponents during the regular season.  This makes it very difficult when coaching and subbing in underclassman late in a game.

I think the back to back Championship games at say MC, Belhaven, or Milsaps would draw a bigger crowd and take away the home field advantage.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

I agree with you completely. Home field is an advantage and in the past we certainly seem to have played better at home .

I don't like reverting to points against common opponents for a tiebreaker - because then you either have to blow out teams when you can for that reason or suffer from substituting and not doing so.

I also agree that a neutral site with a quality facility would be appropriate. I would trade home field in the mud for a quality turf field in a heartbeat - but that's just me.

I assume you support Lamar. Looking forward to a close game with a lot of intensity - been like that in every game these two teams have played against each other over the last 4 years. Good luck to Lamar but obviously I'm pulling for CHA all the way. This matchup has the potential to get chippy with the close games in the past and also the close games this year. I hope that doesn't surface Monday and the game is played cleanly between the teams even though the conditions will be far from clean - will be a mud bath I'm afraid.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

Actually, I am neutral.  I think having three refs (MAIS requirement for play-offs) will help to keep it under control.

Good luck to both teams,  I will not be able to make the game so could you please post the results?

Lamar wins in second shootout. To say both teams played hard would be a severe understatement. Congrats to Lamar - way to fight CHA!

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

Thanks for the game info.  Sounds like the fans got their moneys worth.

What does next year look like for CHA?  I know Lamar had four seniors and Laurel Christian had no seniors.

Re: MAIS Final Four Boy's soccer

CHA had 2 seniors and no juniors - started three seventh graders with three more 7th graders contributing. CHA is very young. Should be some great games in the years to come.
