Bower vs. Fedora

Bower vs. Fedora

I know that I bashed Bower as much as anyone on here but I can tell you this. I never saw a Jeff Bower team give up 50 points or lose to UAB. AND, Bower played teams like Florida and Alabama, not Kansas and Virginia. Defenses win championships. Is USM better on offense? Possibly so but they will NEVER win under Fedora like they did under Bower. Thought??

Under Bower defense was not so good. If I had a dollar for every tackle they missed last 3 years Nix was here and years after he left. I would be rich. USM is better on offense for sure. You have to remember majority of defensive players were recruited by Jeff

Re: Bower vs. Fedora

Just because things arent going they way we expected this season doesnt mean we will never win under Fedora...Give the man some time, its only his 2nd season..I do agree about the defense though, something has to change...And it was much more than winning with Bower...Now if this trend continue the next season or two, then I would agree with you....And I dnt think our defense is really that bad...We just cant tackle and IMO play the wrong schemes, that make us look bad at times

OK.  Fire him too.  You wanted more offense? You got it.  You wanted more fans in the seats?  You got it(somewhat).  You wanted more excitement? You got it.

RE: Bower vs. Fedora

What more do you want from USM? I can understand the frustration of losing to UAB, but you have played two top 20 teams(at the time) on the road and have only lost by 14 total points. Why are you complaining? Fedora is doing a good job there.

RE: Bower vs. Fedora

I agree 100%. Alot of the reason the defense is so bad is because of the piss poor job Bower was doing at recruiting before he left. Fedora is getting some of the best talent in this state to come play at USM. Dont believe me, go look at the MS/ALA roster and look at the guys coming to USM next year. It takes time to build a legit program. Houston has destroyed teams all year, and USM was :50 from OT with them!!!! Forget the score, the guy is getting results. We've got a great Sophomore QB, NFL WR, great backfield for years to come. His young players are starting to show up on defense as well. Bower was a joke in his last days, living off of the talent Nix brought in on defense. Fedora is a great hire for our team...flushed

Did you guys notice that UAB beat UTEP Saturday?  I believe UTEP is the only team that has beaten Houston this season so far.  Apparently UAB has a little ability maybe just not consistent.

UAB's QB is a nightmare to defend.

USM still controls it's own destiny for the C-USA East Championship as well. 3 tough games remain however.

That is what I was about to say AS. If USM wins out, they will get a shot in the CUSA championship game, presumably against Houston

I don't know...

I blasted the Fedora hire back when Bower was let go but Fedora has not done that bad of a job..

I mean heck man they won 5 in a row last year and won the bowl game.

RE: Bower vs. Fedora

We're not doing any worse than if Bower was still here. I promise under Bower we wouldn't have made the 4th quarter comebacks like we did against UVA and Houston this year. He wasn't a second half coach.

Yes, we're paying Fedora more so we should get better results, and I believe we will, next year.

We need UAB to lose also. As of now, we both have 2 C-USA loses, and UAB has the head to head.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Indianapolis Colts

I wouldn't be too worried about UAB, if they run the table within the conference I'll be surprised.

RE: Bower vs. Fedora

would we be disappointed with a 5-4 record at this point in the season with bower? probably not. fedora has expectations way up and is selling way more tickets than bower did recently. could it be better? alot better but is it better than it was? by a mile

Re: Bower vs. Fedora

Right now we are doing ok but the future looks bright. Like someone else said, look at the players Fedora is bringing in. He is building a better program. Every game this year I have felt like we had a chance to win even when we were behind. There has not been a game on the schedule this year that I didn't think we could win. With the Fedora offense USM is capable of beating any team you play. Things can only get better over the next few years.
