Re: Te'o's "uplifting" story not true?
As we saw in the national title game, much of what we thought we knew about Te'o turned out to be false.

This is one of the most bizarre stories I have heard in quite some time.

The "more like Nosuch Dame" joke at the bottom is one of the funniest things I've read in a while.

Re: Te'o's "uplifting" story not true?
And now ND officials are saying that Te'o was hoaxed into believing his girlfriend died? This just keeps getting better

RE: Te'o's "uplifting" story not true?
So the "press release" from Notre Dame pretty much says Te'o got catfished. But didn't he say he talked to this "person" on the phone in one of his interviews?

Re: Te'o's "uplifting" story not true?
Report from ND official
"Notre Dame Statement: Manti Te’o
On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.
Dennis Brown University Spokesman | Assistant Vice President"

Add to that the guy who supposedly did this is a "family friend" and has tweeted to him before. This isn't looking good for Te'o.

RE: Te'o's "uplifting" story not true?
Surprised her name wasn't Georgette Glass. And it's just weird that a Catholic institution would cover something up. GoodOnPaper wrote: So the "press release" from Notre Dame pretty much says Te'o got catfished. But didn't he say he talked to this "person" on the phone in one of his interviews? Not only that, he said that they first met after a game at Stanford and that they met up in Hawaii while he was home. Even if he was hoaxed, a lot of the things he told do not coincide with deadspin's findings.
