Fastpitch American Softball Association (FASA)

Fastpitch American Softball Association (FASA)

Can anyone provide more information about this.  I see that some of the tournaments that where USFA have switch to this association.  These tournments include MIZUNO ARK-LA-TEX-CHALLENGE and others mainly in the Shreveport area.  If you try to go to usfastpitch.com and by mistake type usfastpitch.net you go to the Fastpitch American Softball Association site.  There's also a World Series in Shreveport.  I'm guessing that there was an USFA internal feud and some split off into there own association.  But it's only a guess.

It appears this organization broke off from USFA. Bobby Heir is the President of FASA and he used to be on of the directors for USFA. If you go to the USFA site and look at State Directors for Texas, you'll see that Northeast Texas is "open"...this spot was formerly occupied by the current FASA president, Bobby Heir.

All the tournaments that used to be USFA but are now FASA are tournaments that were previously directed by Bobby Heir.

I'm not 100% on this...but I believe Bobby and Jeff Strode (USFA VP) did not get along very well. I vaguely remember hearing something about that a while back...but like I said, I may be wrong.

I've said it for years....MS travel ball (esp 12U and down) could make millions on a reality show.........I'd name it The Softball Moms of Mississippi or  Softball Survivor...."Tune in on Monday when Susie's mom body slams Jenny's mom over the boom box."

Pretty much...it's no different. Same thing some teams do...one daddy gets mad so he takes his daughter and starts another team. eek1

I dont know if the divorce was because of 'dislike'..

More to the story than just swapping tournaments over to FASA! It will all be out in the open soon! And it's not about the two not getting along that prompted this and yes some people just not happy with how much they make and want it all! Good luck to all teams this summer! Have a great year!

IMHO, this will simply dull both bodies ability to have a quality tournament by taking teams, chewing up weekends...between USSSA, NSA, USFA, FASA and as many A's as there are...Exactly how many teams are there?

Re: Fastpitch American Softball Association (FASA)

If anyone wants the fulls scoop. I'll be happy to talk them one on one, but most of your speculations are incorrect. Actually Bobby and I were very good friends who talked sometimes 3 or 4 times a day...so I'm not sure where that came from.  Obviously his departure from USFA has put a damper on our friendship as we both knew it would for awhile, but I'm sure we'll be friends again in the future.

This split had nothing to do with me, it was a decision by the National Office to demote Bobby from the Vice Pres position. They were allowing him to remain the LA State Dir. There were several issues that played into the decision, but at the top of the list was they felt he was running way too many events himself in LA & NE TX and not allowing teams to host any fundraisers. So I guess in a way it was about money.

Why some of the events are no longer USFA - Because of the timing of this issue,  Bobby was able to collect much of the data about his former USFA events & teams from the USFA website and transcribe that info to his website (mostly without teams knowledge or permission). BY the way, Bobby owns the usfastpitch.net domain name. Also becuase he had signed the contracts with the city of Shreveport and a few others there wasn't much we could do to keep the event USFA. However, I think teams are going to be disappointed if they put too much trust in what he has posted on his website including the Ark-LA-Tex. I know of a bunch of teams that have told me they weren't going if it wasn't USFA.

Plus we just posted a USFA Wounded Warriors 2X PTS NIT an hour from it in Ruston that I would expect will probably pull teams away from it too.

This weekend will be a big clue for many teams in LA & TX becuase there were over 50 teams that signed up orginally on the USFA website to play in his Wild West Shoot in Kilgore/Henderson TX. He changed it from USFA to FASA and listed all the teams on his new website. But we were able to get another park in the area and all the teams signed up with USFA.  Then he even made the tournament $0 FREE to try and keep the teams, yet he was only able to keep @ 15 teams of the 50 he had listed last week - yet the USFA Tournament is full with 48 teams.

So. even though Bobby and I were very good friends, I have to quote the old saying...."It's not personnal ....it's business" and it's still my job to make the USFA teams happy as best I can, becuase I understand that teams have other options every weekend.
