Re: No soccer shelters at State?

I almost choked on my hot dog when I saw the Clinton folks rolling out the shelters for the Clinton team prior to the 6A match.  All I could think about was the bashing they would receive on this site had they been used.  The weather cooperated, so not an issue.  Nice shelters, however.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

Have we forgotten the Clinton Booster Club gets a Giant Boost to their coffers from all of these games. Still think the shelters should have been used and the school using them should be responsible for any damage caused by the players. It was quite ridiculous to have those kids standing/ sitting in the pouring rain!! But then we were in Clinton, what would you expect!

I have to agree that the shelters should have been used for all teams. It is the State Champion games and Clinton gets the Honor and money to put it on, they should have thought of all the good players and not the few bad ones.IMObiggrin

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

The shelters if split up like everyone is wanting would have only covered half of each team bench therefore half of the team would have still been wet.  Would everyone then complain about there not being enough of the shelters to cover the whole team?  Also the shelters in now way affected the players because if they where playing they where in the rain anyways and warmed up in the rain so whats the difference?  The players came out there to play soccer rain or shine and I promise they weren't worried about getting a little wet.

RE: No soccer shelters at State?

Half of maybe the 6A, possibly 5A bench. Just depends.

The smaller schools would all fit under there pretty comfortably. One of the comments during the Clarkdale girls game was that they probably needed to sub; that may have been, but if you looked across the field, you would have seen very few kids, period, to sub with. The smaller school games are the ones that actually needed the shelter.

And yes, you will get rained on in the game, but you don't want kids not doing anything to have to sit and get rained on.

You don't have to use the shelters if you don't want, but provide something.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

My understanding is that the shelters are a set. Typically, Clinton uses both during needed games. This makes sense to me; they don't call it home field advantage for nothing. During the State Championships, Clinton is a site.  Of course, they have some advantage when they play for a Title.  Since they purchased the shelters, they should be able to use them however they choose. Just as if we had fancy tents with pushy buttons and team logos (you get the point)-they are owned by Clinton. If they wanted to cart them on the road, i guess they could.

Easy to point out problems. What's a good solution? MSHAA  could purchase and provide an additional set to be split and used during the State Championships. This will appeal to the kids and parents who have to separate video screens in the back seat because God forbid kids learn to share.

If this is a case of the have and have-nots, it's a great opportunity to teach a life lesson. Pick one of the following or create your own.

1. Others can afford things you can't. Don't buy on credit.
2. We all have barriers others don't. Push through your obstacles!
3. You may want to make excuses for your short coming. Learn from your weaknesses; it will make you stronger!
4. Just because something is logistically correct, doesn't mean you can't choose to do the unexpected and kind thing instead for your fellow man.
5. Respect other people's stuff as if it were your own. When you destroy their property or other's property during football season, not only do they not want to provide for you when you make the soccer playoffs, they can't provide for others. Stuff AIN'T cheap AND money don't grow on trees!
6. If you don't do #5 you make it hard for others to do #4.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

Would the Clinton soccer teams travel to another location with their fancy shelters?  Of course not.  Any Clinton team that makes it to the finals already has an advantage - there is no denying that.  For the finals, the rule should be to use whatever shelter you want, just as long as it can fit into the back of a minivan.

Seriously, does anyone have any idea of how much money is made by either MHSAA or Clinton because they get the honor of hosting the finals?  My recommendation is to buy another set of shelters, and then people will be talking about how really nice it is to have the finals every year n Clinton, rain or shine.

RE: No soccer shelters at State?

It's Clinton's dugout shelters. They can do what they want with them.

We bought two big tents for our teams (share between the boys and girls). We take them to all games just in case. I suggest other teams purchase one if they have the opportunity as they really come into use during the high school season.

I say we stop beating a dead horse because it's the same arguments over and over again.

Aw now since when do we stop beating dead horses. Do we not get to have our own opinions. this just shows why it should be moved every year. Lets see if Clinton would mind spliting the money from the concessions with all of the teams. The money to purchase the covers was made at least in part by the concessions at state.confused

Under your theory of how things should work Tat,  maybe Clinton should not allow the visiting teams to use the locker rooms, the restrooms, or even warm up on their field prior to the match.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

Why would Clinton share profits from concessions.  I'm sure it was Clinton Booster Club that bought all the items that are sold in the concession stand.  I doubt any other teams or MHSAA contributed one penny to stocking it with food and drinks.  I may be mistaking but I think its the Clinton girls booster club that gets the profit from the concession stand and they weren't even in the championships.  So what they made a few bucks from selling cokes and candy.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

Does any other school's Booster Club get this guaranteed opportunity every year? I may be mistaking but I think the answer is "no". I will grant that thems that don't work, don't eat, as in the Clinton folks aren't obliged to share their profits with anyone other than the MHSAA.......Hmmmm, maybe I'm onto another motive for the games staying in the Clintoplex.

RE: No soccer shelters at State?

I don't really feel it's "Clinton's fault". I wouldn't want my $6000 shelters getting torn up, either.

I do feel MHSAA needs to have something out there for when it rains. It just makes sense, for that game. It's not like another playoff game. I don't think they need to go around throwing free monkeys at the players for being in it, but I do think a little shelter from the rain is a good move.

I'm not sure if people know they can get on the field to put their own tents up. This year was MUCH looser than in years before, and I'm glad for that. With the way the games are scheduled, I honestly could see a lot of people not being sure about it. And it being a state final and all. They should ask, but then again, I do think that's something that should be provided.

Re: No soccer shelters at State?

I could care less where the championship games are played.  I will freely admit that I prefer Clinton but that is because of the short trip home (5 min).  I honestly think the reasons for being held in Clinton is that facililty is top notch, muddy fields are not an issue, and it's a short drive for the MHSAA folks.  I can't think of other motives...would you like to share?
