Diamante Pounds vs Aeris Williams

This is not going to be Saltillo at West Point but looks to be Pounds vs Williams. These are 2 of the best running backs in 5A going at it. Pounds is coming into the game with 1,513 yds 15 tds after 9 games & Williams is coming into the game with 1,464 yds 18 tds after 8 games.

Should be a good one with those 2 come Friday night

    Who wins it?

I don't know what to think about this west point team lately. This is a must win for them so I think they'll pull it out.

You are probably right. Don't know why but that is what has been happening the past 2 seasons

Re: Diamante Pounds vs Aeris Williams

This will be Saltillo's one and only REAL chance to beat West Point in the next few years. Saltillo is one of those teams that never gives West Point any trouble, except they will this year. I expect a high scoring game. I don't know if WP fans can take Saltillo beating us bad at halftime then we have to storm back in the 2nd half OR we are beating them bad then they storm back on us. We have been blown out in a bunch of games this year and we have tried to come back. I just know this is getting old. We need to come out and flat out beat somebody instead of waiting until we are in a hole to play football.

One thing that annoys me is we sometimes don't play with Green Wave spirit. Losing 2 home games ALREADY which really should have been 3 home games because Lake Cormorant dropped a WIDE OPEN pass in the end zone with a minute or two left in the game is sickening. Some of these teams are not scared to play West Point anymore. I know one thing. Williams gets almost all the carries which everybody fears will be WP's downfall this year, even more so than WP's bad defense because at least we have the offense to possibly give us a chance. There are other folks who can carry the ball but we want to run the rb Williams in the ground. We haven't learned that lesson from a few years ago I see with Jamar Shelton. Of course the next game which was north state, our team basically quit before the game started.

Our defense is down right embarrassing because we keep doing the same bad things over and over again and expecting a different result. That's the definition of insanity. I'm calling it like I see it. Like for example our safety... we play him so close to the line that when the other team throws, our safety has NO chance to go over there and assist our db. What is the safety out there for then? Also, in maybe 3 games this year, we have used TWO safeties over the top WAY AWAY FROM THE LINE and I think overall defensively that has been MUCH BETTER than us just having one safety UP CLOSE TO THE LINE. Of course the downside with using two safeties is that there is one less person to get after the qb or rb right away which can mean giving up some yards on the ground. Mostly the whole game, we play one safety up close on the line or no safety at all which is downright frustrating when everybody seems like they can throw when they play us. We are NOT using the players we have correctly is my point.

RE: Diamante Pounds vs Aeris Williams

Having seen both, Saltillo's defense should be able to make stops at times.

West Point has the better rushing attack, but Saltillo has the better defense. Saltillo's Pounds against WP's D is the weaker, but somewhat rather the same, matchup.

West Point can ill afford to lose this game. They do have Lake Cormorant in a tiebreaker and the Gators have yet to face Oxford. But they would need the ball to bounce their way if they lose this one.

Never thought I'd see the day where WP had a weak defense.

It is sad because any team can throw on us. I know we better not get ourselves in a big hole or we will be toast. Also, when is the last time WP lost 3 home games in a season because Friday night and 2 weeks later against Lewisburg are two real chances that we could have our third (or even fourth) home loss?

That WP-Oxford game really SHOULD have been high scoring. WP had almost 200 yards in penalties against Oxford and we still scored 20 points. I know we had over 300 yards of offense.

RE: Diamante Pounds vs Aeris Williams

I wanted to point out we stopped Pounds and gave him his first non-100 yard rushing game of the year.

Now West Point didn't do a bad job on Kenzie who is a tough runner to take down. He only toted it 19 times but got 126 yards off of it. Most of his carries though was in the 4-10 yard range.

To give you an idea, he also toted it 19 times against Saltillo, but ran for 217. He ripped off 4 big runs of 57, 28, 30 and 34 - accounting for 149. Saltillo should get stops, but Aeris can make a couple house calls in this game - they are liable for the big play.

We held Pounds to 87 yards on 22 carries. Held Aeris to 150 on 30 carries.

I feel though WP should edge this one out by a score or two.

I can't tell 1-5A anymore though beyond us and Center Hill...Lewisburg beat Clarksdale last week for pete's sake...

So glad the WP defense decided to finally wake up and play in the 2nd half because we went to sleep out there right before halftime.
