Wrestling Concludes Successful Blue-White Finals

Courtesy: CitadelSports.com Release: 11/02/2009

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel wrestling team hosted a successful blue-white competition on Saturday morning in the wrestling room at Vandiver Hall.

The Bulldogs took part in the annual inter-squad scrimmage in preparation for the start of the season on homecoming weekend. The starting spot in several weight classes has not yet been finalized and several members of this year's squad had chances to impress coaches before they make final decisions for the NC State dual meet line-up on Saturday.

Returning SoCon placers Tyler Sim and Richard Alarcon battled it out to start things off in the 125-weight class. Sim edged Alarcon, 5-3. Sim will redshirt this season however and Alarcon will be the starter for the Bulldogs at 125. The 133-pound weight class was one of the areas where coaches were looking for someone to stand out. Freshmen Jordan Dix and Dustin Paridon battled to a 1-1 tie in the first match, while Dix was able to take Paridon, 3-1 in the second match. At 141, Redshirt freshman transfer Nick LaFevre edge returner David Ivashchenko, 1-0 to further strengthen his case to be the starter at this weight class. At 149, returners Pierre Frazile and Derek Royster also fought a close match as Frazile nipped Royster, 3-2, to make his case to start. Impressive freshman Turtogtokh Luvsandorj justified his starting status as he registered a 17-2 technical fall over freshman Cameron Childs at 157. Returning SoCon placers Derek Sickel and J.C. Oddo cruised past their competitors at 165 and 174 as Sickel took out sophomore Justin Sparrow in a 13-3 major decision while Oddo registered a fall over Casey Underwood. At 184, Kelby Smith moved past Brian Hurley, 9-6, while Ivan Muller downed Manuel Camargo, 5-2, to solidify both of their starting spots for next weekend.

Timothy is still listed on the roster, not sure why he or Delaney aren't in this.

This was wrestle-offs for each weight.

Delaney is the 197.

Re: florida boys at the citadel

Kevin lost to Boyer from Robinson HS in the prelim match, I think by one point.

He was 5 pounds over before weigh-ins so cut some serious weigh right before the match. He should be at 141 for The Citadel open on 7 Nov and be a little better prepared.

No excuse at this level but that's what happened.

The credit belongs to the man in the arena,  and not to those who knew neither victory nor defeat.
