FHSAA dress code
Every year we see coaches down on the floor at the biggest most prestiguos tournament in FLorida that look like they've come from the club or the hay fields. One of the best thing about wrestling is how it teaches kids how to respect themselves and others. The coaches are representng the schools and the kids and as coaches we need to promote a since of professionalism. I wish the FHSAA would require a certain dress code in order to be on the floor coaching! I'm not talking a shirt and tie but at least shirt with a collar and sleeves! If I'm not mistaken doesnt the NCAA have some sort dress code? Anyway, just my opinion...

Some guys just think differently, Manatee Coach Gug was dressed
as Batman and his asst. coach was Robin a few years back. It doesn't bother me if they dress that way, it's a free country. I would want my coaches to be remembered for carrying themselves with class and dignity rather than a sophomorish stunt.
The Largo coach has a very casual/biker flare currently. The days of Tom Landry are gone forever.

Re: Some guys just think differently, Manatee Coach Gug was
I thought Batman and Robin was fairly funny due to the circumstances and pre-discussions on the board before the event. However, I was sitting with several administrators who support wrestling and I have to agree with them that it would look better and help promote the sport if people dressed accordingly. Any coach regardless of the sport is representing the school, administration, athletes and the sport. I know that many principals and athletic directors expect it. Just my two cents............Some great wrestling yesterday. The depth of wrestling has really grew over the past 25 years. Some amazing athletes.

Re: Some guys just think differently, Manatee Coach Gug was
Just because of what the Largo coach wears does not dictate the person he is. The call made was a very bad call, and the ref should have let it go to overtime. I think a lot of Coaches would have been emotional in this type of situation, especially when the kid is a senior and his dream of winning a title ended in a bad way. That is just my two cent of the match. BuchholzCoach wrote:

RE: FHSAA dress code
batman and robin may make another another trip... to lakeland one day...
leave coach big J alone. If ya dont know him then you do not know his "personality" and his passion for his kids.
Great job all of the wrestlers who earned a medal yesterday..... your hard work has paid of....
Coach Gug

Re: FHSAA dress code
Just my two cents....
Show some class....Show some respect.....and for gods sake at least show your wrestlers and school you respect them enough to not "dress up" like its halloween. I can tell you this for a fact, they wouldn't even be allowed on the floor in a few states looking like that. I was embarrassed for them.

Couldn't agree more about the Largo coach being ejected- I wish I was tossed out over that call as well. He cares about his kids and had to watch Doss lose a State title over a horrible call. The match should have been decided in overtime

Re: Some guys just think differently, Manatee Coach Gug was
The Largo coach is a great guy and like another poster said his kids love him and he is dedicated to them. He might not dress the way you and I think he should. maybe he don't like the way a lot of you judgemental plastic folks dress with the same old suit and tie.. I personally could care less what he wears. This is free country and people can wear what ever they want. I think he probably does it just to piss some of you folks off.. I got an idea - go tell him to his face that you don't like the way he looks. As far as him getting ejected. I'm sure he was very upset.. It was a terrible call when the ref decided the match on a stalling call with 2 very tough kids going at it! I hated the call and all most everyone in the stands did to! He was upset and I can't really blame him. nothing changed in that match from the first period till the end..If your going to call stalling, call it the same way all through a match not just at the end. Let the kids decide who wins.

Re: FHSAA dress code
My favorite was the pimp daddy coach. I thought he was Warren Sapp at first. His kid won the 145 3A. Good match but the outfit is what I'll remember most

RE: FHSAA dress code
I don't care about clothes, but I am throwing my two cents in about the call. That ref was terrible...so terrible that I don't even have words for how bad he was. Let the kids decide the f'ing match. Cut up your ref card and never ref another match again. I watched heavyweights hug each othe for 6 minutes, and he hits a kid for stalling just because the other kid did a better job at sumo pushing. LET THE KIDS DECIDE THE MATCH! I pray that he doesn't come anywhere near any match that has any meaning ever again.
