Re: Gwinnett County continues tradition of dominance
There are 18 Gwinnett County Public High Schools in Gwinnett County. 17 of those are in regions 7 & 8 AAAAAA. 1 is in Region 8-AAAA (Lanier). Gwinnett County also contains 1 City school system (Buford) and several private schools (GAC, Wesleyan and Hebron). Students must go to the school in which district (cluster) that they reside. There is however a Permissive Transfer policy that allows students to go to other county schools, but is limited to space available. The schools in Gwinnett county that allow permissive transfers are: Archer HS Dacula HS Duluth HS Lanier HS Mountain View HS Shiloh HS South Gwinnett HS
Of course students from anywhere could go to the private or city schools as long as they are accepted and pay the Tuition. The Tution for Buford is 2,000 per year while the private schools ranges fro 12,000 - 20,000 per year. There are actually a substantial amount of Gwinnett County kids that play for St. Pius as well.
Also if you choose to go to another school outside your cluster, you must provide transportation and not have any discplinary action or excessive absenteeism/tardiness.

Region DOne pays no tuition, just homage to Gwinnett
Kneel, boys.
Thank goodness Lovejoy didn't win so we didn't have to hear from Flacid One how they were the real state champs since they beat Lovejoy.
The two best teams in AAAAAA played for the title.
Colquitt should pull a Stephenson and drop down to AAAAA so Dekalb could slap their face, too.

Thanks, even though the facts will still be disputed by some of the SoGA folks. I notice the schools with permissive transfers are those that either opened in the past 3-5 years to meet demand (now stalled by the downturn) or where population changes have decreased enrollment.

As a side note to that, we moved to Suwanee in 1990 and bought a house in the North Gwinnett Cluster. Since that time 4 high schools have been built by the county that has taken students from NG. Those schools are Collins Hill, Peachtree Ridge, Mill Creek and most recently Lanier. The Lanier split took 1000+ students directly from NG 3 years ago. My point is what is seen by a lot of people as an advantage can actually become a disadvantage. Try developing a community and players coming up from the youth leagues only to see a large portion cut away is extremely challenging. I have coached in the North Gwinnett youth baseball and football leagues since th 90's and players that have played for me are currently some of the best players at Peachtree Ridge, Mill Creek, Collins Hill, Wesleyan, GAC and Buford. I guarantee that is something that Camden or Colquitt doesn't have to deal with.

Re: Gwinnett County continues tradition of dominance
Agree 100%....and just think if Lanier was never opened (which it should not of )....it split the community and hurt the sports for years to come.

In Gwinnett alone they have 40,000 students to recruit........
GHSA has to address the blatant team building by recruitment practiced by metro teams.

There are
17 public 6A schools. Wesleyan, GAC, Providence, Killian Hill are private. I'm not sure of all of their classifications. George Walton and Loganville Christian Academy while not in Gwinnett draw from Gwinnett. Buford (AAA) is a city school with open enrollment that is mostly in Gwinnett and draws from Gwinnett. I don't know how much the privates in Atlanta such as Lovett, Marist, St Pius X draw from Gwinnett but I'm sure they get some. Does that answer your question? camcat81 wrote: In all classification?
