Wayne/Coffee Bands.

Wayne/Coffee Bands.

Quick question:

We all know what the weather forecast for tomorrow is SUPPOSED to be like, but will Coffee County's band still be coming? Just curious. A lot of opposing team's bands stay home, when it's homecoming... I hope this isn't the case here, however. Coupled with the weather, I figure that is it very likely... Still, I hope the Trojans bring their band. I've heard good things about them.

Great halftime!

So... For lack of a better word, halftime down in Wayne County was absolutely AMAZING tonight. Coffee sounded great, as did Wayne. I can't even put it to words... Just know fans, this is the best I've seen the WCHS band in a while... They absolutely delivered on the field! As well as in the stands! Sorry to be so excited, but despite the loss... It's a good night to be a Wayne County Yellow Jacket!

Re: Great halftime!

Wish someone would put up videos!

Interesting that you say it is the best it's been in awhile - those are pretty strong words!  What makes you think that?

Is he band bigger?  Is it louder?  Is he drill harder (and they march it well)?  Is the drill not necessarily harder but better designed and executed better?

It's hard to evaluate without seeing, of course.  I remember doing a show a few decades ago which was just simple pop music and, as it happened, we really didn't do a good job the first night - but everyone was saying it was our best show!

Re: Great halftime!

I wish someone would, too!

And as far as best in a while goes, I meant in the years/games I've seen.

They are a decent size. About 150 max, I'd say. They were very loud tonight, and they marched very well. Much better than the Appling game, which... As good as they sounded, there were some not-so-cute moments in the marching. They were not perfect, but they were WCHS loud and proud, and there... Well, there was just a very different feel tonight. They looked like a band that can compete, they looked like a band that can win competitions... And as far as sound goes? They sounded like real winners.

Not that it says much, but I had absolute chills the entire performance.

RE: Wayne/Coffee Bands.

They really did deliver last night. Best sound I've heard out of the group in awhile, too. Wayne has always had a great sound, but marching this year is up to par with the playing. Many of the sets looked quite impressive, and the feet looked great. From every aspect you can see they are doing great and giving it their all. What's even more impressive, when you tell the students they did a great job, they say "But I messed this up, etc." They're not letting anything get to their heads, and they are constantly improving. They already have the full show on, and to look this clean and sound this good in September is impressive. Come competition time, they're going to turn some heads. DaBigKahuna - I had a friend record the show. He was thinking about uploading it. I'll talk to him and see if I can get a link for you.

On to Coffee's show - they had a really great sound. Marching-wise, they had some problems, and there were a lot of people out of step. Regardless, they were really entertaining. I do question why they had their pit in the middle of the field. Also, the electric piano was a little too overpowering for my tastes.

RE: Wayne/Coffee Bands.

I totally agree. The WCHS band is excellent this season. I was afraid of a bit of a letdown after all of the band director drama, but you have to give the new director and the kids credit, they pushed through and are getting better every single week. I absolutely love their music selections so far this season. With the kind of year our football team is having, the band is worth not leaving early. They were excellent from beginning to end. That being said, Coffee County put on a heck of a performance as well. The whole thing with the kid on the ground was classic. At first nobody could tell if the poor kid passed out from the heat or what.
