City of Cartersville

Players and coaches from the city of Cartersville did us proud the other night at the Northwest Georgia Tip Off Club banquet.  Mike Tobin and Jon Nickerson from Cartersville High and Excel Christian won co-coaches of the year, while Ryan Davis and Rudy Winters from Cartersville and Excel respectively won co-MVP.

Lots of basketball talent in Cartersville, big things are certainly to come!

Re: City of Cartersville

Congratulations! But remember in the NW Tipoff Club, team of the year and coach of the year are based on record only not by vote of who has done best job. So things such as talent and player movement decide those awards not best coaching nor best team play. Coaches such as Ray Tucker, Tim Ellis, Glenn Hicks, Mike Duffie and Jacob Travis may have done better jobs. Teams from those schools and other may have achieved more with what they have. Calhoun and their coach is another example. These awards are not accurate and should be voted on.

If the Tipoff club awards are "record only" .... with no vote .... how do ya come up with "co" winners? Cartersville had a better "record" than Excel (only very very slightly) ..... But, But, But..... Excel went deeper in the playoffs and was able to beat the team that eventually put the Canes out at playoff time. I don't doubt you are correct.... I just wonder .... Really .... How does the Tipoff club determine their "winners" ??? Does the Tipoff club award "Co" winners every year????

Re: Educate me Ontheglass....

It has always been determined that way in the NW Tip Off club. It must have been because the records were close and Excel went deeper. The club founder and administrator decides winners. Also teams of year are allowed only one player on team. So Cartersville for example had a good year but only had one player on team of year unless they also had the player of the year. The club is a great idea but needs to be set up differently.

Excel didnt make it deeper than The canes in the playoffs theres only 16 teams in 1-A private school tournament! meaning they both succeded at making it to the 2nd round.

I don't disagree OntheGlass.....

Maybe it should be called the Ron Roach award???? Honestly.... I generally hate ... "Co" anything. A few years back in the old GHSA region 7AAA(years "2010-11" & "2011-12") .... that region actually issued "Region Co-Championship Trophies" to 3 different teams in baseball even though tiebreakers established a #1, #2, & #3 seedings for the GHSA state playoffs. I had never seen that before.....GHSA Region "Co-Champions" in a team sport. Go figure.

I had read they made the quarter finals.... But didn't think about the Class A's Public/Private Championship bracket split. The Quarters in a 16 team field .... is only the 2nd round.

GHSA's Single A Classification .... Gets to have "Co-Champions" too! Lol

Re: My mistake...

And we HATE IT.  Freaking whiners.

I could see ya'll getting a taste of it soon.

In single A, a city school won the girls public championship.  In AA, Wesleyan will most likely take the girls' title, and GACS the boys'.  Two more private schools.  In AAA, Buford, a city school, dominates football, and is extremely good at baseball and basketball.  Cartersville looks set to take a permanent spot among the top ten in football, baseball, and basketball for the foreseeable future.  St. Pius is looking very strong in all three major sports.  Mark my words, a split may never happen, but eventually the whiners will come out of the woodwork in full force and cry about "unfair advantages" privates and city schools have at higher levels too.  It's already happening a little bit...  Give it a couple more years.  ohlord
