Remember

a few weeks back when people were complaining about paying extra for the playoff games. Well this is not about football, but rolleyes. I was in Tifton  on Tuesday and as I passing by the Tifton movie theatres I decided to see if the " Hobbit " movie was playing. Well just my luck it was and I was there just in time to catch the movie while it was starting. It cost me $11.50 just to get into the theater confusednoidea. Sense I am a big time "Lord of the Rings" fan and sense I was already in Tifton, I decided to pay the $11.50. Upon entering I proceeded to approach the concession stand. I immediately went into shock eekohlord. I usually go to the movies in Coffee county and it cost somewhere around $5 or $6 to get in and I always buy a large popcorn and a large coke. Those are around $4.50 a piece. I love movie popcorn so no big deal. All in all I will spend $15.00 going to the movies in Coffee. Back to Tifton. I was prepared to order my large popcorn and large coke when I looked up to see that the large popcorn was $8.50 and the large coke was also $8.50 disbelief. The poor kid working the concession stand ask me if I wanted to order something. I said empathically "hell no" Not in this life time eek1. The money was not a problem. I simply refuse to be robbed. Crap the small popcorn and coke cost $6.50 a piece and I mean they were small rolleyes. If I had gotten my usual, I would have had to pay $28.50 just for myself ohlorddisbelief. How the heck does a man in Tifton afford to take his family to the movies noidea? Is this the norm all over Georgia or it is just a Tifton thing noidea?

Re: Remember

The last time the wife and I went to the movies was 1997. Those prices are a big ripoff. I would go but she says it is a waste of money.

Because most theatres, especially that chain in Tifton, charge around $9 for the evening showing.  As to the food and drinks, it's called the "captive audience" theory.  It's the same thing at a college or pro sporting event.

They have you there, they can ban outside food and drink, and they know you're gonna want something.  So they can charge whatever they like.

Re: Remember

I quit going to Tifton. They are a little higher than Valdosta. Actually I have all but quit going to any of them as they are legalized robbery. The Athletic/Entertainment industry has gone wild with their admission prices and will continue to do so as long as we support it.

RE: Remember

I will not be held hostage by the theaters. I have completely quit going to the movies. there are other ways to see movies. Theaters will completely disappear soon. Theaters are old school.

Re: Remember

11.50 a ticket at the Mall of Georgia, I go to Costco and buy the tickets there and save about a third on the normal ticket price, they still get you on the popcorn and drinks though.

Re: Remember

Went to Holllywood Connection and saw Django last Friday at the 12:45 showing, I thiink the two tickets were 8.75 each.  Seems like with coke and popcorn it was 28.50.  Pretty good movie.  Best deal on the popcorn is to buy the bucket and refill it for  3.50 each time you go.

Re: Remember

I'm 46 too and may never go back in a theatre. I too have been "gotten" by the Tifton folk.
My wife and kids, 5 of us total, went to see the Avengers movie about 6 mos. ago when it came out, $11.50 x 5=$57.50 for tickets. I felt that I was robbed a little but handed over the debit card and went in and to my surprise no one but me wanted popcorn and a drink. I ordered, and the kid said $17.00 please, I said you must be wrong, I only got 1 popcorn and 1 drink. He asked me if I read the sign before ordering which I did not. I decided right then that I may never go back to any theatre, thats just robbery to me. I also thought that the movie would never end so I could leave.
How do kids date these days? I mean, it would take $30 at the theatre and another $15-25 for dinner and a tip. Add fuel to the car and you've spent $75 to take your HS sweetheart out, and thats just one night.eek1 I used to do it for $20 or less.banghead

last time I was in the Tifton theater I took my daughter and son to see the transformers. Dropped about 50 bucks best I remember and I ain't never been back. The Rockin 8 cinema in Douglas is much nicer and a little cheaper. I just wait for it to come out on DVD.

Oldhornet, it almost sounds like we was dating the same woman back in the day. Lol

Re: Did you see the 3D version?

Yea Triple H I saw the 3d version. I don't much like movies in 3d and wished that this one wasn't done in 3d. Having said that, it did have some pretty good 3d scene's.
