What choice would you make

What choice would you make
EXAMPLE 1 - County has 56,000 residents
If you were a good football player who lived in team Bs district but could go to team A, team B or team C because of open enrollment, which of the choices below would you choose:
Team A
This team has been to 5 straight title games and has one of the better coaches in the state with great facilities.
Team B
This team has been to the playoffs 2 years in a row and has lost in the first round each year. Facilities are not very good and the coach is average.
Team C
This team has not been to the playoffs in years and it would be a surprise to everyone involved if they were good enough to make the playoffs. the coach is average at best and the facilities are too.
I played and my brothers played and we all agreed that we would want to play for team A if we were good and had an opportunity to get playing time even though it was out of our district. We also said that if we thought we wouldn't be good enough to get playing time with team A that we would want to play for team B or team C so we would be able to get playing time. None of of us seemed to care that the fact that we played with team A might mean that a player who actually lived in that district wouldn't get the playing time because we were better and would knock the in district player down the depth chart. We also agreed that if that happened, it would make team A better then if they had to play the in district players.
-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------
Example 2 - County has 17,000 residents
Team A
Everyone in this district plays for the same team because there is no choice to be made. They have to play there and they work hard and do the best they can against the rest of Georgia and they don't have to worry about another player coming in and knocking them down the depth chart. Because there is no one who can come in who might knock them down the depth chart they may not have to work as hard as a kid who plays for team A in the first example. Even if they do work as hard, maybe they don't have the talent the kids from team A in the first example have because they don't have as many to choose from.
NOW WHAT MAKES THIS REALLY INTERESTING IS THAT TEAM A FROM EXAMPLE 1 GOES UNBEATEN AND MAKES IT TO THE PLAYOFFS AND TEAM A FROM EXAMPLE 2 GOES 8-2 AND ALSO MAKES IT TO THE PLAYOFFS. AT SOME POINT IN THE PLAYOFFS, THESE TEAMS MEET AND TEAM A FROM EXAMPLE 1 WINS BY 35 POINTS AND GLOATS ABOUT HOW GREAT THEIR PROGRAM IS AND HOW HARD THEY WORK AND THAT IF TEAM A FROM EXAMPLE 2 WANTS TO COMPETE ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS WORK HARDER. DOES THAT SEEM RIGHT TO ANYONE? IS THAT FAIR TO TEAM A FROM EXAMPLE 2? SHOULD THE GOVERNING BODY ALLOW THAT TO TAKE PLACE?
Just a hypothetical question. If this depicts any community or team it is purely coincidence and shouldn't be taken as something that is meant to be offensive in any way.

I'd say.....
You and your brother would get ran out of town. Everyone knows that there is too much loyalty to change districts down there:)

That's probably true Hive! We never had the option that some kids in the state have. hivekeeper wrote: You and your brother would get ran out of town. Everyone knows that there is too much loyalty to change districts down there:)

Re: What choice would you make
Purple...I posted this earlier in a different thread...You didn't answer so maybe you didn't see it...I'm re-posting thinking maybe you didn't see it...You can keep on about these "advantages" all you want but it's very obvious what the main difference is..........
Purple...Please do me a favor...Go to the website ghsfha.org...click on "Find a Team"...Search for Calhoun...Click on "Record by Year"...
Then just do a little reviewing...I think you will notice that prior to 1999 (when Coach Lamb came) that except for a few years here and there that Calhoun had very mediocre seasons. Some were downright ugly. Even Coach Lamb's first 2 years were pretty bad.
Prior to 1999, Calhoun had the same rules they do now in regards to open enrollment. Would you like to explain to me what the difference is before 1999 and after 1999? I think it's pretty easy to see the difference.
And yes, this is my first post. I normally read this Vent daily during the football season and some during baseball. I just never have posted. Just wanted to put some facts in front of you.
Congrats to Jefferson on a well-played game

I pick
Example 3 which is:
You are so obsessed with this that you make color coded posts and go on and on and on. I'm sure there are no horses left in Fitzgerald. You have beaten them all to death. ;)

I don't think we will move up. We may move down......our population is dropping about as quick as Calhouns is rising. I wasn't talking about Calhoun.....why did you think I was talking about Calhoun? This was simply a hypothetical question. Stinger123 wrote: LMAO!!!!! Re: What choice would you make
I think the coach you have has helped attract some players from the county who wouldn't have come to Calhoun to play for the previous coaches. It boils down to having an opportunity to win a championship. Most people want to have that opportunity and will jump at the chance to have it. I suspect the success wasn't there prior to Lamb because the previous coach wasn't doing a very good job. Why would good football players want to go to a school outside their district to play for a team that was no better then the team they should be playing for in their own district. I think coach Lamb has helped attract kids who want to be at a winning program and that has snowballed into what you have there now. I have seen that anywhere from 30 to 70 percent of the players on the Calhoun team don't live in the Calhoun district......that's an advantage anyway you slice it. Single A will be perfect for Purples way of thinking. They've already separated out the "advantages" there. Problem is, he won't have anything to whine about!!

Re: What choice would you make
NO the single A title would not satisfy me as much. It would seem watered down to me. OK maybe I did base my senario on a couple teams in the state of Georgia. Stinger123 wrote: LOL!!!!! Re: What choice would you make
Venom I don't think its a matter of private vs public. I would just like to see a multiplier for teams that have out of district players playing on their team. I think that would even things out a bit. Every level of football has divisions and classifications to keep this stuff from happening. Football is the sport that can become unfair without classifications or divisions to even out the playing field. JacketVenom wrote: Single A will be perfect for Purples way of thinking. Re: What choice would you make
You just answered yourself...Coach Lamb built the program and attracted the kids...Built it from about 50 kids to over 100 participating now.
Unlike what you think though, the big majority of the new participants have been decent athletes that were walking the halls and not playing. Like you said, everyone wants to be on a winning team.
If we got all the athletes in the county, why would all the Gordon Central athletes not come to Calhoun? They have a LOT more athletes than Calhoun does.

Re: What choice would you make
I never said you would win.....but you do have an advantage and I know you are smart enough to see it..... You laugh about the color coded example but I just thought it might help you folks see it better if I drew you a picture......since you all act like you have no idea what anyone is talking about when they talk about the advantage that you and Buford share.
