Re: 10,107 !!

I was there.  Surprised they didn't announce 11,000 plus.  Great crowd.  The kids were loud.  They cheered for Middle. All bleachers pulled out and packed.  Great idea.  Great experience for the kids.
Sports game for us.  A life experience for them.  Bud

My wife and I were both not feeling well but came to game. Could not get to parking place from all the buses. Took 20 Min. once in parking lot to get to handicap parking. Saw several SEASON TICKET PAYING fans leaving because of the cluster#%^& in the parking lot. Once inside and seated IN THE SEATS I HAVE PAID FOR we were chased out and told children were setting there that 1. Will probably never be back unless it is a freebie and 2. Don't give $$$$ to the University.
Yes it was nice for the children BUT they should not chase SEASON TICKET holders out of their seats. Atheletics could have moved all season ticket holders down to lower rows and given the upper sections to the schools. Very bad move on the universities part in my opinion. When moving to a bigger conference and begging for money it is not smart to piss off long time donors.

I don't mean to be rude, but you should know that's what they did. They made an announcement about the change in seating prior to the game, and really it isn't their fault that you weren't paying attention. It was on GBR.com 2 days prior to the game. That announcement is that season ticket holders would be relocated into the lower rows of the arena. In addition, the announcements about it before the game should have at least filled you in on it if you didn't already know.

If season ticket holding fans really were dedicated to going to the game, they would wait. I know my group that went to the game didn't complain about the traffic, and they usually park in the Greenland lot, so I'm not 100% sure where you're coming from. Perhaps it got bad when you arrived. Not to worry though, the game on Thursday won't be nearly as bad. And what do you expect with 7,000 kids? Of course things will be hectic.

Re: 10,107 !!

I believe I also received an email stating there would be seating changes for this game. I think the University stepped up and tried to accomodate the fans. With 10,000+ people to accomodate, a few will slip through the cracks. I was not able to go (my wife and kids did), but I think it is a great idea to do this once per year. Most of those kids have never been to a Middle hoops game. If we want the fan base to grow, we need to hook these kids early. Give them a reason to want to come to MT and not run off to Memphis or UT. Sorry you had a bad experience, but I bet there were many more who had an incredible experience at yesterday's game.

GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Was out of town for the last week got home Monday night so did not see anything stating that and we did not get into game till tipoff because of the buses and general cluster#$%@ in the parking lot. I'm sure the kids had fun because they were not in class but that still does not make it right to displace season ticket holders and people that donate money they could use for other things other than MT. By the way MY seats are in the lower bottom 5 rows and we were told to move. You have your opinion and I have mine.

I think season ticket holders were more than accomodated, and it is possible that the busses did not cause all of the cluster, but classes going on as well, so let's not be so quick to blame the kids.

I had no problem both getting into the parking lot, or getting a seat.  Someone was sitting in my regular seats when i got there, so I just sat elsewhere.

Let's remember what this was about, and not always think about ourselves and the small inconvenience it was in the grand scheme of things.  Blob, you are right about one thing in your post, and that is for a lot of those kids, this was their first college basketball experience.  And what an experience it was!  i assure you some of those kids will go home and tell their parents how much fun they had, and may be back.

Finally, i will say this to all that are complaining about the game yesterday and using the fact that they "give money that can be used elsewhere."  Take your damn money and use it somewhere else.  i get sick and tired of people using their donation as a threat every time they do not get what they want or feel that they are not accomodated to the highest degree by the university.  Yesterday was a bigger opportunity than any of us, and I am saying that as a member of the AD Circle.  So, in summary, GET THE HELL OVER YOURSELF!!!!!

There's one in every crowd.

I think it was a great move, not just for the university, but for the kids as well.  Some of the less fortunate children don't even have college on their radar at this point, so this is a great opportunity to tour a campus and become excited about college.  Not to mention that actions like this could really help engage Rutherford County.

Yup, can't make everyone happy and there is always one person that finds a reason to complain about something. What a shame.

I believe MCS contacted the university after saying tons of kids said it was the best day of their lives. To me, that is worth if. Building life long fans and giving back.

Ditto, I just drove home when I saw the 20 school buses jammed in the lot. The Greenland parking situation was poorly managed.

Why are children at a basketball game and not in school?
No wonder they can not read or count change. The teachers must have wanted a day off.

Half the attendance was free give away tickets.

I can see why nobody goes to WBB games anymore, it's too crowded!

Oh, I long for the good 'ol days of 350 people at the game.

Exactly. I love it, I hope it kicks up interest in MT sports, especially given our impending move to CUSA. Hoping we get another big crowd for tonight's game...

But not too big so that the long time donors are not inconvenienced.

RE: 10,107 !!

Ok, I could have probably worded it better, I loved the crowd and remember when it was like that every game and look forward to crowds like that at future games. I'm glad the kids had a great time and hope some come back with parents. I just think it could have been handled better. We had been out of town for a week and did not have any kind of notification by email or phone this was happening to my recollection. Kinda shocked when we arrived 30 min early to see the masses then to get removed from our seats.

Re: 10,107 !!

I received an email on November 28th from BRAA that stated this about the APSU game.

"Season ticket holder seating will be moved to Sections D,E,F,N,O,P in the first 10 rows for reserved seating. Those sections will be roped off and monitored by CSC personnel. All other sections are General Admission for City School Students."

From where I was sitting there were lots of empty seats around me in Section E and lots more across court in Sections behind the bench and the scorers table.

Parking was confusing.  There were tons of kids there.  And they yelled their little heads off. If you had asked the teachers they probably would rather be in the classroom....much easier day for them to teach than to corral kids on a bus and get them to behave at a basketball game.  I wonder what Jackie Pickel thought about yesterday's game? I bet her class was the most prepared and knowledgable at yesterdays event.

I agree with every one else.  Dont' threaten with your donation.  This is the first time since I have been a season ticket holder that we were even remotely inconvenienced.

I listened on the radio from work. Actually, the announcers complimented the schools saying something along the lines of knowing the kids could read b/c every time they put Make Noise on the boards, the kids went crazy. It's one game! It was Austin Peay!  get over it and realize it was somethin to give back to the community and to try and BUILD the fan base. Something all of us have been b!tching about as long as I have been on this board. If greenland lot is full, park somewhere else! (not directed at you blob as I noticed you said you parked in handicap spot). I personally think it is a fantastic idea and should be done every year.

GO BIG BLUE!!!!
