Floyd Stadium turf

Floyd Stadium turf

Obviously we're going to be laying down the C-USA logo on the football field soon and that got me wondering. Do any of you think it feasible or even desirable to replace the turf with real grass?

Didn't we just add the turf grass a few days years ago? Seems like that's as good as grass almost and cheaper to maintain

I brought this up a couple years ago and no one really seemed to like the idea. We have an agriculture department that I  believe could benefit from having a grass field and maintaining that field for students.

Well I'm just older than I realize now that I think about it its been a solid 5 years. The at dept maintaining it would be nice but still costly. I'd like to see it.

Really?  I hadn't heard that and was just simply thinking out loud.  I'd love to see real grass.

I think they went to turf in the first place because grass was tough to maintain after also having the High School State Championships. Now that those are gone, I would think we could go to grass and maintain it better. As an athlete, I'd prefer grass, but that'd just be my personal opinion.

Does anyone know if Murfreesboro plans on trying the get the State Championships back?

I don't think Murfreesboro/Rutherford Co/MT care either way. It's just not a money maker event.

RE: Floyd Stadium turf

Correct me if I am wrong, but they originally had turf because both Oakland and Riverdale played their home games at Johnny Red Floyd. Shortly after installing new turf in or around 1999 Oakland and Riverdale both got stadiums. It was the shitty turf though. The new stuff is much better.

This, I think if Murfreesboro is going to fight for something, it will be spring fling.  Much bigger money maker.

I went through the ag dept but didn't major in plant and soil science.  They actually have classes that are for turf grass management.  For landscaping, golf courses, and atheletic fields.  I'd love to see them rip up that turf and put down some sod.  The ag dept. could manage this and it would help the ahtletic dept. as well as the ag dept.

I think it would cost too much.

We have trouble enough on our practice fields.

The baseball guys do a hellagood job on their field, however.

Re: Floyd Stadium turf

Getting rid of the turf for grass would be expensive initially, but most of that cost would be removing the concrete and replacing the dirt.  After the grass was installed, it wouldn't be a big deal.  A little 24-d, N-P-K, and water... presto, weed free turf.  Since it would be bermuda grass, you can kill the weeds in the winter with round up.  It's really not a big deal at all.
