I think they can work around it, the MT home games play first game of the season, the Vandy home games, play late in the year.
OT, I find it interesting that Vandy realized the games against like institutions (Wake Forest/Northwestern) don't draw like they thought. Back in the early 2000s while we were beating them their fan base said Vandy shouldn't play us but like minded schools; now they are realizing its more profitable to play us because we will travel better...

I hate the idea of opening with Vandy, personally. What's the point of getting your biggest game of the year (supposedly biggest) out of the way early? No anticipation building through the season... Getting the rivalry game out of the way first is dumb if you ask me. I don't like it.

I don't like the idea of playing it on Thanksgiving weekend either; that's typically a huge attendance killer.

I'd be open for a basketball agreement, but football doesn't seem that appealing. That's not an easy roadtrip - nor is it a known commodity among football fans. Granted Massaro may see it completely different.

I think it was more because most of those schools couldn't beat anyone. So they put each other on the schedule to try to play teams they feel like they have a realistic shot to beat. Irony is Vandy and Northwestern have made strides forward, while Wake who was at least respectable has slid back. |

I think this is a non-issue. We have what? Like twelve months until the 2015 schedule is finalized? I fully expect the series to at least start and I'll honestly be surprised if it isn't played to completion. This isn't the same Vandy that we beat up three times almost a decade ago.
They won 9 games in 2012...let that sink in. The last time they won nine games was 1915.
Let me also say that while I don't think the opener is ideal, I think it's a far better option than Thanksgiving weekend. Even with it being Thanksgiving weekend I'd say we'd have a pretty solid crowd, but I want the students to be there and I want both home games to be SRO, which they would be on any date other than Thanksgiving weekend. Opening day honestly would probably be the best turnout for us at home. It isn't cold which brings more casual fans and Vandy is enough of a name to draw a crowd. God forbid but if we play near end of season we could be 2-9 and not have anyone coming to the skillet.

Regardless of when we actually play, if it's early in the season there's no excuse for it not being SRO. Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
