Not weird at all. I have imaginary friends and an imaginary girlfriend, too.

Very bizarre stuff, it will be interesting to see what all happens with this.

The thing that gets me is that Notre Dame is behind him all the way. They gained a lot of publicity out of his story, too, so if it all turns out to be a fake I have to imagine SOMEBODY at the school knew it and went along with it, too.

That's assuming he made it all up for publicity. If he WAS duped into dating some imaginary girl for a few years, then it's even stranger.

he was part of it, he is the one that had a few different dates of death. Said they meet at Stanford and she visited him Hawaii. Come on, you didn't get dooped by someone.

I'm sure everything will eventually come out and it's going to be hard for this guy to get over this. His draft stock probably fell quite a bit after a dud of a performance against the first real opponent he saw all year and this is only going to make it worse ... even though this shouldn't really effect it.

I almost felt like this whole past football season the media and Notre Dame were trying to make him into the next Tebow. I'm sorry but if I'm in a "relationship" for over a year I'm actually going to meet the girl at some point. This is all a scam for publicity.

I'm not going to knock the online dating deal. I know folks who have met through Facebook, Plenty of Fish and a few other dating sites and ended up getting married. Some dated long distance for a long time, but still ...

NPR did a really good piece on the journalistic failures surrounding this whole ordeal. His response any time people asked for her family's contact information was that he wanted to respect their privacy and give them room to grieve. Coming from a religious, All-American poster boy, people didn't question that ... which is fine on its own. Everything else put together should've stacked up bigger question marks, but having you name on the byline of a story like this was too alluring for people to really figure this out.

The fact that he got duped

makes this whole thing even weirder ... ESPN is saying that he really didn't have anything to do with the creation of the fake girlfriend in THIS article.

Granted, in THIS article they attribute some quotes to teammates who say they questioned the whole thing from the start and that he sort of played along when news of her death turned into a big press event.

Just freakin' strange all-around.

I'm also not knocking online dating.  Its hard enough to find someone these days anyways.  All I'm saying is that at some point I would think there would be a time where you may want to actually meet somebody.  Like stated this whole situation is very strange and I'm we'll never know what has actually happened.
