SEC bowl wins

Miss.St. = not impressive way to end a game vs. Northwestern

Georgia, Vandy, So.Car. - did what they had to do, took care of business.

Any thoughts?

You are on the wrong board. Try an SEC board somewhere.

That's cool because I swore I could have missed the Sun Belt bowl wins thread on Vandy's board.  eek1

RE: SEC bowl wins

You wouldn't have been able to post on Vandy's board anyway! We talk about football other than the Blue Raiders on here all the time. It is weird to see a first post like that though. but for what it's worth I think the SEC teams that won did what they were supposed to do, but that's easier said than done. Particularly from Georgia and USC. Those were good Big10 teams they played. I could watch Clowney's hit all day long! Of course I moonlight as a Gamecocks fan when they aren't playing MT.

MSU has hit a ceiling and the "nerd" schools are going to take over.  Vandy, Stanford, NW, Duke and ND are on the rise.

As for the SEC, they are fine.  I think FL and Bama win and Ole Miss gets beat.

Ludicrous. It's been a nice story with the "nerd" schools but they won't sustain. Never have and never will.

Stanford has done well and NW has made several bowls. I think times are changing.

I think that these teams can and will have some success but they will have a ceiling.  Once a team like VAnderbilt does have some success in more than a couple years bigger programs will come calling for the coaches.  Very similar to what happens in the Suck Belt and other mid majors.  Big teams come in and rob us of our assistants and head coaches. noidea

You may be right but let's take Vandy for instance.  He won 9 games and is making over 3 million a year.  Money will never be an issue for Vandy.  They are going to pump in MILLIONS of dollars for facilities over the next few years so facilities will not be an issue.  Hell they were very close to going 11-2 this year with the near misses vs FL and SC.  I think he can get them to ATL.  Now can they do it year in and year out, No but other then BAMA who has lately? I am not sure what Franklin's dream job is but I am not sure these BIG schools are as attractive as they once were.  If he does it another 2 years at Vandy he will be close to 5 million and will have a statue on West End.  He could go to Bama and slip up and be fired in 3.

The same could be said at Stanford.

RE: SEC bowl wins

Well you may have a point seeing as Vandy is dropping contracts with anyone that seems to give them an automatic loss out of conference. They may have won 9 games this year, but the competition they beat says it all. Smoke screens. They teams they beat had a COMBINED record of 36-72. That says it all right there.

Combine that with Franklin who is easily the most obnoxious couch in college football. I've never seen someone over compensate so much and try to do anything to get a punch in headlines. Aka flying a freaking helicopter 10 miles down the road to a local high school game. What a joke.

Vandy is not the only team that is getting out of sure-loss contracts, or contracts that could potentially be losses.  And now with the playoff and how teams are ranked (perception), you will see more team do this as well.

I cannot stand Vandy, but you have to admit that Franklin is doing what he was brought in to do: put Vandy back into the conversation.

Actually Vandy never paid anything like they are paying now ever. Gordon Gee was actually the one who did away with the Athletic Dept. to merge it with the student fund where all of the big money was. Vandy's athletic dept was treading water forever and the university was never committed to football until very recently. Basketball is different because it doesn't cost nearly as much to run and be successful. Totally different in football.

What they've done this year is impressive but they have yet to beat anyone with a winning record. Ole Miss is their only hope this Saturday. We've beaten 2 teams that played in a bowl game this year.

Franklin is a douche without question. However, he is getting results.

Re: SEC bowl wins

I realize that most, if not all, Middle Tennessee fans hate Vanderbilt and try to portray VU students, coaches, players, and alums in the worst possible light. Although I don't agree with it, I understand why the hatred exists and will not attempt to persuade anyone to think differently. Class warfare has always been part of American history and understand that it is even more prevalent today than it was before Obama took office. However, let me share a link with you that shows James Franklin is not the bad person that you want to believe he is (see link).

There is no one on here that would not love to have Franklin coaching their team

Re: SEC bowl wins

I personally like Franklin. Anyone that can take that job knowing what's stacked against them and do what he has done, is good in my book. When the horn sounds, ball is kicked, pitch is thrown, I hate Vandy. Other then that, it's a good program. They don't have the best fan support (especially just traveling to Bridgestone) but they do have a more loyal fan base then we do.

As for Franklin, any coach that would personally take the time to call students at their dorms, parents at their homes to ask the student to come to the game (not automated) is a class act. To many coaches these days have this 'holier then thou' mentality and they need to come back to earth. I hope Franklin stays there and makes them a relevant team and doesn't go chase the money when a big historic program comes knocking.

mtsig and TrueBlueBRZ, I appreciate your comments. To be honest, I expected to see only hate filled responses regarding my post. Your astute observations are truly refreshing.

Re: SEC bowl wins

I'm not a Vandy fan, but I like the way Franklin has taken nothing and done something with it. He has worked at getting students and fans to games. He acts like he enjoys what he is doing and I think his player appreciate that and because of his efforts have gotten behind him.
