Bowl Ticket sales

So far 6 teams have sold their allotment to the bowl.  Interesting to me 2 of those is Stanford and UCLA which could not even sell out the PAC 12 championship game.

Re: Bowl Ticket sales Post Rating (1 vote)

Just because this thread was available, I thought I would post this information here.  Late this afternoon, it was announced that the Ragin Cajun's have already sold 20,000 tickets to the New Orleans Bowl through their own ticket office and will continue selling tickets through the Cajun ticket office until Monday afternoon at 6:00 PM.  It is anticipated that UL could sell up to 25,000 tickets for the game!  This is the first time in the brief history of the New Orleans Bowl that the 3rd level of the Superdome will be opened.  That is quite impressive, and sets up the Cajuns in great position for future potential invitations to other Bowls if available.

Indeed, but it seems New Orleans and Cajun fans have a mutual attachment. No one is surprised at the Cajuns success at selling tickets to New Orleans year in and year out. You would think ULM would have similar success with the Indy Bowl but not to the extent of the Cajuns. There are already excuses abound on the Sun Belt board as to why ULM isn't going to sell 15k through their ticket office. Not sure what they're even at right now. They don't have a shot in hell at any other at large bowl in the future outside of Independence.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy - you get a bowl nearby in a great destination city (NOLA, Nashville), and you'll sell the hell out of some tickets unless your fanbase is straight garbage.

You are correct, the Cajuns have taken advantage of the opportunity presented to them for the past two years by getting invited to N.O. and selling the hell out of tickets. After all, ticket sales are what Bowl Executives cherish most.

This year ULM was given an opportunity to prove themselves by getting invited to the Independence Bowl in nearby Shreveport and they appear to be failing miserably!  I have seen on their message board that they "might" have sold 5000 tickets so far!  I don't see another Bowl invitation in their near future unless they capture an automatic bid.

Of course, none of this is surprising to those that know about ULM.

RE: Bowl Ticket sales

How does ULM only sell 5k to a bowl that is very close to them on the best year ULM has ever had? We would have brought at least 10-15k to Memphis. I don't get Monroe at all. I just don't. Those Duck Dynasty dudes should buy over 5k by themselves.

ULL has a great fan base. No doubt. I think one year, they had about 40k at a game. I don't know the exact amount but it was a lot of people.

That's why I just don't understand why we wouldn't play a TSU as an OOC opponent. We would pack the house. We need to get strategic about our OOC games and get teams that would get interest in the area more. I know that Memphis next year is a decent get and BYU in 2014 will be a sellout. I guess winning at home would help too. :-)

Well, we were all set to play TSU instead of McNeese this season, but they backed out at the last second and left us scrambling to find an opponent. We won't be dealing with them again I'm sure.

RE: Bowl Ticket sales

I'm happy for the Cajuns, it helps them and the SBC out a lot having that big of success in ticket sales, but how will they do if they made it in the Military Bowl, Music City Bowl, Liberty bowl even? I'm sure they will grow tired of New Orleans Bowl and want to move to bigger and better at some point.

I'm guessing there will be at least 15k ULM fans in Shreveport. The Independence bowl didn't give the university very good seats to sell which might have lead to many fringe Warhawk fans buying from somewhere other than the University. One of their fans talked to someone in the ticket office and was told that less than 10% of ULM's ticket allotment were chair backs, which are from the 20 to the 20.

Easy excuse. We'll see.

RE: Bowl Ticket sales

Having actually attended an Independence Bowl, they have one of the best local support structures outside the truly elite bowls and most team tickets aren't what you'd call prime seating because the bulk of the prime seats belong to local businesses who give them away as a favor to customers.

Where I sat for AFA-GT was better than where 75% of the GT and AFA fans ended up.

NEVER let "just good enough" be acceptable for A-State again!

From what I was told from Brad Smith who used to work there in the athletic dept., we more than doubled that.

RE: Bowl Ticket sales

If they don't get 15k or more there, they deserve to get blasted by every MT fan period. If we went to a bowl (which we should be going to BTW) especially one that's like 100 miles away, we would bring that many. ASU, as much as I can't stand them, would have brought 25k to Memphis. No doubt. There is no excuse for any ULM not to go to this bowl game.

According to my sources WKU fans have committed to buy 170,000 pizzas from the little ceasar on game day...they don't really care if anyone comes to the game.  In fact they have encouraged everyone to stay home because the bathrooms at Ford Field can't handle the sheer volume of diareah that will be generated by all those people consuming that $hit inducing blob of "dough" and "sauce" and "cheese like product" they call pizza...all this time people thought that stench that hangs over the city of Detroit was the river...
