So many comments, so little time. We need to start averaging 25k, but as this article points out... getting butts in the seats is getting harder and harder every year.

RE: Attendance article

With the economy not getting better and things costing more and more, there is little money left over for people to go to games. I'm not just talking about MT but everywhere. Schools are raising there prices and unfortunately its easy to price yourself out of the market. Until things start looking better financially for everyone. Attendance at games will keep getting worse. You also have to factor in that some schools haven't been doing well. THat will affect attendance as well.

This makes sense, but MT is a heck of deal.   Our attendance has more to do with our inconsistent performance on the field than the cost of the ticket.    There is also a fine balance in the race for better coaches/nicer facilities and what we can charge.

A ticket is $8. Come on. This has nothing to do with economy. Name something you can do for $8 in this town that lasts 2 hours other than eating at Taco Bell.

If have another good year our numbers will grow. You put 2-3 good years together we will be close to 30k every game.

This. We just haven't been able to string a few great seasons together. Ever.

Sometimes eating at Taco Bell lasts a lot longer than 2 hours when you consider what comes afterward redface

Crappy home schedule. Four conference games and a 1-AA opponent.

In our situation it may not be the ticket prices, but the product, but everywhere else it has to do with the money.

Won't get much better this next year. Four conference games, Memphis, and a 1-AA opponent.

But hopefully *fingers crossed* those conference games will be C-USA games instead of SBC games.

Yup, would much rather have UAB, Marshall, Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, ECU or a Southern Miss coming to JRF over ULM, ULL, WKU, ASU or a Troy.

If we win it will not matter who we play.

We won this year and it didn't matter. The best possible draw was Troy the Saturday after thanksgiving when the students were gone. It was a beautiful October day for the ulm game after we gave ga tech what for and the crowd was disappointing. The casual fan doesn't know who ulm is. Can't wait for a cusa schedule. We need to sell more season tickets.

We were 6-7 (bad press from dasher fiasco) in 2010, 2-10 the year before and lost to McNeese opening night - that determined our upside for the year.    You have to win consistently at home and string together several seasons together.   We had Minn, UVA, Miss State, GA Tech and Mary at home - none were that close to a sell out.    Playing a better home schedule does not equal sellouts - the performance of the team over time does.

Losing to McNeese on opening night following a 2-10 season killed attendance for the rest of the year.

Pretty much, this. Folks saw McNeese State win in Floyd and then the next big game was ULM which was a loss. Once those were over there were only two more home games on the season.

RE: Attendance article

We all knew going in that our attendance would be down this season regardless of performance based on scheduling and the 2-10 season. Losing to McNeese and ULM did no favors. I look for a solid improvement this year, especially if we get into CUSA early.

I agree with this. Once we lost to McNeese, the "casual" fan was lost for the year.

And I know we beat GT, but how many people saw that on TV? Was it even on TV? I think it was on ESPN3. That's the problem with the Sunbelt - if we're not playing at home and not on TV, we're out of sight, out of mind.
