This defines the Sun Belt
A team goes 8-4 (6-2) and doesn't get a friggin' bowl game. People can say it's about the move to Conference USA, but the Belt couldn't get a Western Kentucky team that won seven games in last year.
For those left behind who are trying to convince themselves that they're in a better spot than those moving to C-USA ... Good luck. This is what you have to look forward to.

Will this potentially accelerate the process of joining C-USA?

It has too. Massaro needs to sell "tickets" and raise money to help us make the transition even faster. Have something free for everyone to cap off the season.

Yeah, I am on board with the move. The Sunbelt was getting incredibly competitive this year. Looking ahead five or ten years, the question was what was the Sunbelt and the CUSA going to look like in the future. After this mess, I don't see the potential for the Sunbelt to get anywhere especially with a highlighter as the commissioner. If we had not left, someone else would had. Of all things, this is not fair to the seniors on this football team that worked really hard this year. The loss yesterday was a major disappointment, but fans need to pat those guys on the back for what they did accomplish this year. There are some games we all want to forget, but this was a memorable year for me and no one can snub me on that.

I'd rather go independent for one season than be forced to spend another year in the Belt if CUSA can't accommodate us next season.

I believe Massaro has said that Coosa could accommodate us, if need be. Well................... Need Be. Thanks Benson. You dirty slut. rcolinfly wrote: I'd rather go independent for one season than be forced to spend another year in the Belt if CUSA can't accommodate us next season.

I also say we need to cast a blocking vote to any SBC team wanting to join in the future and persuade the other 3 teams to do the same or why leave the belt in the first place? If I was Massaro, I would be ASU and WKU's worst enemy.

RE: This defines the Sun Belt
Agreed. The entire conference just voted for WKU, not MTSU, even though everybody knows MTSU deserved it. It was a self preservation vote. It was to the detriment of MTSU. MTSU cannot vote for and support universities that are against our interests.
If Massaro does not cut ties with the Suck Belt immediately and block them from future CUSA membership, then he is doing his employer, MTSU, an extreme disservice.

RE: This defines the Sun Belt (1 vote)
I am still not calmed down, but I am getting there. Here is a thought.
If CUSA can get us in next year (2013) via the obvious scheduling issues, what contractual obligations do we have to pay an exit fee at all? Did all the Presidents sign off on this or was it imposed by the SBC unilaterally? I really do not know. Need help from y'all here on this one.
I say GET THE HELL OUT ASAP, then sue me and we tie Benson's sorry asrse up in court.
I have been in sales professionally for years and have learned that sometimes, the best negotiating tactic is not to negotiate.
Damm, now I am PO'd again.

So, for those of you who were skeptical of the move to CUSA a few days ago, what do you think now?

footballjones2 wrote: So, for those of you who were skeptical of the move to CUSA a few days ago, what do you think now? To be honest, as soon as I heard the NCAA granted Georgia Tech the waiver, I was nervous for Western that they'd get left out again. As soon as I heard the word about our move to C-USA, I then became nervous about our own bowl bid options. And then, when we went into halftime Saturday 35-0, I got REALLY nervous about our chances. And then tonight played out, almost exactly as I thought, with the only exceptions being La Tech turning down the Indy bowl, which when I heard they weren't invited anywhere else, led me to think tht the Liberty Bowl would NOT want to schedule a regular season rematch between Tulsa and Iowa State. At that point, I thought for sure stAte would be in Memphis and the door would be wide open for us in Mobile. Now, if I'm Massaro and/or McPhee, I get with FAU and do everything in our power to get out June 30th.
