Bowl

We need to win this game bad.  I am seeing several projections with us in Detroit once again. Of course those same projections have GTech in a bowl game so who knows.

Re: Bowl

They, if your looking at ESPN, also have ULM in the Libery above us and Western in the Military above us. They also have Pitt and GA Tech in which aren't locks. I still think winner goes to Liberty loser goes to Mobile. Unless it's true that Liberty doesn't want us in which case it is ASU to Libery and us to Mobile regardless of outcome.

Re: Bowl

Supposedly the Mobile Bowl wants AState win or lose, since they sold so many more tickets to Mobile than we did.

I'm not so sure about those figures.

I saw some projection that had us in the Music City Bowl.  I'd be great with that.

Re: Bowl

The Music City Bowl director has already stated that they don't want a "Sun Belt or Sun Belt type" team.

This may be true, but why say that on the radio ?

A lot of our guys -- Massaro, Kermit, McPhee-- are involved with the Nashville Sports Council.

They'll love us, when they need us.

They may not have a choice.

Re: Bowl

Yeah, I heard that JERK on the radio with Plaster. I appreciated how Plaster kept bringing up MT, but the Music City bowl guy was very negative both times we were brought up. This prick needs to remember that there ARE plenty of us MT fans even though he may not think it. I will not be going to that bowl game ever again unless it has MT or Clemson.

Re: Bowl

I contend, that if was MT vs. Vandy, we'd bring MORE fans than Vandy.

We almost outnumbered them in their own stadium in at least 1 of the 3 meetings at Dudley.

I understand why they want an ACC team, but we would NOT be a bad option.

Our fair-weather and Davidson alumni would come out in droves.

RE: Bowl

If Georgia Tech is denied by the board hearing their case for an exemption (McPhee is on that board), the ACC can't fill the Music City. In that case it's either us or a MAC team. ACC media outlets seem to think that it won't be a problem getting that waiver, but we'll see.

Sounds like both Liberty and GoDaddy want stAte, which makes sense. I just hope that they both want us if stAte prefers to go one way or another.

RE: Bowl

If we end up playing in the Liberty Bowl, we need to bring everybody. Heck, I'll carpool with anyone who wants to go.

They made a lot of improvements there and it looked pretty cool when we played Memphis this year. That new Jumbotron takes up half the endzone area (side facing the street). It's freakin huge. A big booster there told me it cost about 2.5 million dollars. It's as big as the Titans new jumbotron if not bigger because it's more square than horizontal. It was impressive.

They painted the bowl exterior (white), put in this cool blue accent lighting that really pops against the white. It made it kind of glow from the street. The Tiger Lane renovations outside the bowl are really nice as well. They've done about everything you can to improve the stadium. It would be awesome to have a bowl game there.

We need to win on Saturday.

RE: Bowl

The nightmare scenario:

Kent State wins MAC and gets auto bid to BCS (Orange) Bowl. Pitt and UConn both get eligible. CUSA honors Military bid and shorts New Orleans. GA Tech is given waiver to be selected normally. That gives us 73 teams with the following conferences having extras.

B12: 1
WAC: 2
SBC: 3
MAC: 3

That would leave the following slots open:

Independence (x2)
New Orleans
Military
Little Caesar's
Liberty

Indy takes B12 (Baylor) and WAC (LA Tech). New Orleans takes a MAC. Detroit/DC takes a MAC and a WAC. That leaves Liberty with choice of 3 SBC teams and a MAC. SBC would get that slot I would hope. If not, all 3 extra SBC teams are sitting out.

This is the worst possible thing that could happen, in my opinion.

Best case: GA Tech doesn't get a waiver and UConn/Pitt both lose. All 5 SBC teams are guaranteed a bowl.

Wonder if they'd give us access to tiger lane tailgating spots?

RE: Bowl

Sure they would. They would probably split the tailgating but we would be the ones that would be tailgating the most if we got the bid. I gotta think we would be given preferable treatment. We would tailgate even more than Vandy did last year. I've got some serious buddies who are big contributors to UM and could get me some info on tailgating if we get the invite.

I gotta think we would bring at least 15-20k to this thing. It's a 2.5 hour drive for pete sakes! If we can't do that, why even go to a bowl? How many did we take to N.O. or Go Daddy? If we go, I will take my explorer and load up as many Blue Raider Faithful who would like to go with me down there.

If we lose and Ark St. gets the invite to Liberty, we would then go down to GoDaddy or ULM could get the invite over us.

RE: Bowl

Us or Arky St. is getting the Liberty bid. It's a matter of who would bring the most and if they are taking an SBC team, they want the champ. It's a bigger bowl and they pick before GoDaddy. ASU would be perfect for them to be honest because they are less than 2 hours away and ASU has been packing their home stadium this year. Either ASU or us would bring way more peeps to Memphis than a freakin MAC team.

RE: Bowl

Not to nit-pick but Memphis is more of a 3.5 hour drive from the boro. Still agree we bring 15-20k

I think 15k is the ceiling. Our highest attended game at home this year was 21k after the biggest win in program history. No idea why you guys think we'd bring 20k 3.5 hours down on the road.

Re: Bowl

This doesn't necessarily affect us, but C-USA's website is saying that if Tulsa wins the championship game, ECU will play the Cajuns in the New Orleans bowl.
Rice will go to New Orleans if UCF wins the championship game.
